Relapsing polychondritis is a rare disease characterized by inflammation of the cartilage in the body. Deterioration of the cartilage may affect any site of the body where cartilage is present. Interestingly you can see on our patient here it only effects the top portion or helix which contains cartilage and spares the bottom part or lobule which contains no cartilage.

Here is a classic example of a butterfly rash on a newly diagnosed Systemic Lupus patient. She presented with non-scarring hair loss at the age of 22.

Lupus is an inflammatory disease caused when the immune system attacks its own tissues. It commonly effects young females. Lupus (SLE) can affect the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs.

We will begin treatment on this patient with B cell therapy get her life back on track!

Dr. Sahni is a third generation physician with 26 MD’s in his family, however it was his initial career as a firefighter that drew his avid interest in medicine. Dr. Sahni served as president of his undergraduate university class and achieved his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. His passion with research is evident, conducted at the State University of New York and Rutgers Medical School and holds multiple journal article publications, including but not limited to the Journal of Pediatric Blood and Cancer, the American Journal of Otolaryngology, as well as The Rheumatologist (the official publication of the American College of Rheumatology). Dr. Sahni graduated residency from Hackensack University Medical Center Palisades and graduated as Chief Rheumatology Fellow from HCA Healthcare/ USF Morsani College of Medicine. Additionally he is also boarded in Advanced Musculoskeletal and Regenerative Ultrasound.
