Ever wondered what makes up your tooth? Here’s a quick breakdown of its essential parts:

1️⃣ CROWN: The visible part of the tooth above the gum line, covered by enamel, the hardest substance in the body.
2️⃣ ENAMEL: The protective outer layer of the crown, keeping your tooth safe from decay and damage.
3️⃣ DENTIN: The layer beneath the enamel, more sensitive, and helps give the tooth it’s shape.
4️⃣ PULP: The innermost part, made of nerves and blood vessels, which keeps your tooth alive and healthy.
5️⃣ ROOT: The portion of the tooth embedded in the jawbone, anchoring it in place.

🦷 Root canal: what’s the process?

A root canal might sound intimidating, but it’s a common procedure done here at Gables Sedation Dentistry that is used to save your tooth and relive pain. Here’s how it works:

1️⃣ DIAGNOSIS: if you’re experiencing severe tooth pain, one of our dentist will take an x-ray to determine the extent of the damage.
2️⃣ NUMBING: The are is numbed with a local anesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable during the procedure.
3️⃣ CLEANING THE INFECTION: One of our dentist will then remove the infected pulp (the soft tissue inside the tooth) and then cleans the root canal to eliminate any bacteria.
4️⃣ SEALING: After cleaning, the space is then filled with a biocompatible material to prevent further infection.
5️⃣ RESTORATION: A crown or filling is placed on the tooth to restore its strength and function.

A root canal can save your tooth and help you get back to a pain-free smile! 😁
