So, let’s talk CREMATION.
Did you know????
1. Can I sign for my own cremation?
Yes, you can, all you need is to sign and notarize a self declaration form and the crematory authorization form.
2. I/they have a will, what happens at death?
If a legal will is in place, it trumps current decision, If your loved one has left instructions on the final disposition of their body, legally, we must go by the will.
3. If my loved one has passed away, who signs the cremation authorization form?
In Louisiana, a cremation authorization form is signed by the legal next of kin. If there is a surviving spouse, they have the sole authority to sign. If there is no surviving spouse, then a majority of the surviving adult children have the authority to sign the form.
4. Can I scatter/bury cremains anywhere? Yes, however it is best to get permission from the property owner/cemetery to scatter/bury. (Some cemeteries do charge to bury). You do not need a funeral director present as the final disposition is the crematory.
