There are 3 ways to organize your thoughts as you confront the issue of forgiveness.

1. Forgiveness has to do with the past.
2. Reconciliation has to do with the present.
3. Trust has to do with the future.

By contrast, you could have a conversation that deals with two of these issues, or even all three. In some good boundary conversations, you forgive the other person for the past, reconcile the present and then discuss what the limits of trust will be in the future.

The main point is this: Keep the future clearly differentiated from the past.

As you discuss the future, there are a few things that need to happen:

1. You clearly delineate what your expectations are
2. You define what limits you will set
3. You decide what the conditions will be, or what the consequences (good or bad) of various actions will be.

As the proverb says, “A righteous man is cautious in friendship” (Prov. 12: 26).

People who are not treating you well, are not going to treat you better if you work harder. You don’t earn yourself being treated well, you excuse yourself from situations where you’re not.

I highly recommend Dr. Henry Cloud!!

If you feel drained, taken advantage of, and spread too thin in your relationships, know you're not alone. Many loving, dedicated Christians struggle to set healthy boundaries. They want to live out their faith by serving and loving others, but feel guilty saying "no" even when needed.

That's why Dr. Henry Cloud is thrilled to invite you to an online workshop called "Does God Like My Boundaries?" on February 5th (watch live or stream it as many times as you like later, on-demand).

In this judgment-free zone, Dr. Cloud will teach through no-nonsense straight talk, science-backed research, and the Bible to awaken you to God's true design for boundaries. You'll see firsthand how setting wise, loving limits allows you to serve in a balanced, sustainable way - without burnout or resentment.

Here's just a preview of what you'll discover:
-God's view of self-care
-How to set boundaries while staying relationally connected
-A step-by-step process for finally silencing boundary guilt

We know how challenging and isolating boundary issues can feel. Our hope is this workshop helps you experience the spiritual and relational freedom you desire.

It’s easy to say to a lonely (also, depressed, grieving, hurting) person: “But remember, you have the Lord with you all the time!” That’s true, but it’s not what God said to Adam in the Garden of Eden: “It is not good that man should be alone” (Genesis 2:18). We’re created with an intense need for fellowship with both our Lord and with other people. We need both!

If you feel alone, work specifically on cultivating your daily walk with the Lord and enjoy His fellowship. Then, in that context, ask Him to bring into your life a person or group of people who can be a family for you.

He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5

I must learn that the purpose of my life belongs to God, not me.
God is using me from His great personal perspective,
and all He asks is that I trust Him. He simply asks me to have absolute faith in Him and His goodness.
