In recognition of Hepatitis Awareness Month, it is important to spotlight conditions that affect liver healthโlike autoimmune hepatitis. ๐
Autoimmune hepatitis is a rare disease in which the bodyโs immune system attacks its liver cells and causes long-term inflammation and liver damage. Many times, initial symptoms of autoimmune hepatitis may be minor or go unnoticed. When they occur, the most common are fatigue, abdominal discomfort, aching joints, itching, jaundice, enlarged liver, nausea, and spider-like angiomas on the skin. While there is no cure for autoimmune hepatitis, treatment can help and early diagnosis is key to preventing serious complications like cirrhosis and liver failure.
