August 12 is . In continuation of our Overdose Awareness education this month, we’re taking a moment to shine a light on this crisis that is also affecting our teens.

📝 According to a study conducted by the New England Journal of Medicine, drug overdoses and poisonings are now the third-leading cause of pediatric deaths in the United States, after firearm-related injuries and motor vehicle crashes. While overall teen drug use overall has declined, overdose deaths climbed as synthetic opioids infiltrated illicit supply chains. Fentanyl laced counterfeit pills has been linked as the major catalyst, with 3.2 drug overdoses deaths per 100,000 adolescents.

While overdose risks remain serious, there is hope: teen drug use is down, awareness is up, and more young people are choosing healthy, substance-free ways to cope and connect. Let’s keep the conversation going. 💬💜

💜 August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day.

Overdose does not discriminate. From grieving families to vital first responders, the impacts of overdose are far-reaching for all communities. This year, has declared “One big family, driven by hope” as the theme of 2025. A message from their campaign resource page…

”This IOAD, we come together as one big family to take action on overdose. The overdose crisis doesn’t just shatter our families, it fractures our communities. [The losses] cross borders between cities, states and nations. … Only a community wide effort can end overdose.”
