🚨 Health Alert: Recent testing found high lead levels in many popular protein powders. A Consumer Reports investigation of 23 protein supplements revealed that more than two-thirds had lead amounts above safe daily limitsnewsweek.com – in some cases over 10 times the limitfoodandwine.com! For example, Naked Nutrition’s Vegan Mass Gainer was measured at 1,572% above the lead safety threshold, and Huel Black Edition at 1,288%. Plant-based protein powders were the worst culprits – nearly all the vegan products tested had elevated lead, averaging 9× more lead than whey (dairy) proteinsnewsweek.com. According to experts, there is no safe level of lead exposure for humans. Even small daily doses can accumulate in the body over time and pose long-term health risks (affecting the heart, kidneys, brain, and more). “We advise against daily use for most protein powders, since many have high levels of heavy metals,” warns Tunde Akinleye, the lead researcher on the project.
