Congratulations to our June Mountain Laurel award winner, Valerie. She went out of her way to show compassion to a patient and her husband during a stressful visit. A co-worker shared:

"I was the RN caring for my patient who was being seen in the Emergency Department for a possible stroke. The husband of my patient was very concerned because of the condition his wife was in. This was a very stressful day for both my patient and her husband. Her husband needed help finding the café so nominee went with him. Once there, she took it upon herself to purchase lunch for my patient and her husband. The next time I went in the patient’s room, she and her husband were smiling and having lighthearted conversation while eating their lunch. They then explained to me how a kind employee purchased it for them. Also, it should be mentioned that this patient was treated at Reading Hospital years ago and did not have a good experience. I don’t think the nominee understood how much this kind gesture impacted them. This is not an isolated incident for nominee. She is always doing random acts of kindness and is a true angel with such a kind heart and should be recognized."

Valerie made a lasting impression on her patient and her husband when it meant the most and we're so grateful!

Congratulations to our June DAISY Award winner, Megan. A recent patient's family shared their gratitude for her going above and beyond to care for their father after heart surgery.

"My Dad was a patient in the SICU for a CABG. The nominee was one of the most caring and intuitive nurses I have ever met. The nominee was my Dad’s nurse night one, post op from the CABG. Not only was she his primary RN, she was training for half the shift AND was charge RN. Not once did my Dad feel forgotten. In fact, he raved about how attentive she was to him even when she was busy with charge duties. My Dad said that the first night was the worst due to nausea post op, but the nominee did everything in her power to make him feel better. My family slept well at night knowing that the nominee was his nurse. Reading Hospital is so lucky to have this nurse and she deserves every award in the book."

Stories like this remind us why compassionate nursing makes all the difference, and we are lucky to have nurses like Megan.

Our May Mountain Laurel winner, Steve, reminds us that great care isn’t just about recovery, it’s about connection and heart:

"During a recent therapy session, our physical therapist Steve worked with a patient. As always, Steve approached the session with patience, encouragement, and a deep sense of compassion. But it was what happened after the session that truly stood out.

When they finished their exercises, Steve handed the patient a small token – a makeshift “fake medal” – and told him it was because he was a champion. The patient beamed with pride, holding the medal like it was gold. In that simple gesture, Steve turned an ordinatry moment into something extraordinary. It was so refreshing to witness. In a world where small acts of kindness often go unnoticed, Steve reminded us that care goes far beyond physical therapy – it’s about connection, dignity, and making someone feel seen and valued.

Steve didn’t just help the patient move better. He made him feel like a winner. That’s the kind of care that truly make a difference."

We're so proud of Megan Davies, RN III N2S, our May DAISY Award winner. Megan took the time to connect with a patient and her passion for nursing and love of helping others shone through. Her patient's spouse shared:

"My husband was admitted to N2 with CHF. We were both nervous and overwhelmed. This nominee was amazing. She explained what was happening, updated both of us and made us feel comfortable. That would have been enough but she went above and beyond. On our last night there she knelt down beside my husband’s bed, eye to eye, and explained in a kind and gentle way how he could take care of himself so that he didn’t end up right back in the hospital. As I watched her it reminded me of what nursing is all about. It is having knowledge and skill. It is managing patient symptoms. It is prioritizing and facilitating. But at the end of the day it is about the genuine care, the eye to eye, and the connection with the patient. Times may change the profession of nursing but as this nominee showed on that day it doesn’t change the heart of the nurse."

We're so grateful to have nurses like this on our team, leading and reminding everyone around us what it truly means to be a nurse. Thank you for all you do, Megan!

Congratulations to our April Mt. Laurel award winner, Christopher Hanko - we're all grateful for Christopher's quick, compassionate actions.

Christopher's story: "Nominee learned that an individual did not show up for an appointment and a person close with the individual told nominee that they believed this person to be depressed and at risk. Nominee contacted local law enforcement to initiate a wellness check, which resulted in the individual being discovered in a remote area and rescued. I firmly believe that without nominee’s quick and decisive actions, the individual would have caused themselves fatal harm."

We're so proud of Christopher and his courage and responsiveness in a difficult situation.

April DAISY award winner, Caleigh, showed exceptional kindness to a patient and proved that sometimes, small gestures go a long way!

Caleigh's co-worker shared: "I’d like to nominate my co-worker for a Daisy Award. One of our frequent patients came back the same day he was discharged. This particular night she was the charge nurse and went to T2 to do his peritoneal dialysis. We asked the patient why he came back so soon and he explained to us how he was at home and ready to eat a cheesesteak with his son for dinner and he ended up back at the hospital unexpectedly. The next day, this amazing nurse took it upon herself to buy him a cheesesteak from his favorite spot and brought it in for his dinner. The patient was so happy with this gesture that he proudly took a photo and sent it to his son. Later on the patient told me that he was so happy because of this kindness. We need more nurses like this nominee. She is a bright light who always shines when you need her the most."

We're so proud of Caleigh, and are grateful to have such kind and caring nurses on our team.
