Do you believe in “overnight success”?
I don’t.

Generally speaking, 99.99% of those who are suddenly thrust into “fame” burn-out just as quickly.

The same can be said with business. There’s no such thing as “overnight success,” and this is why banks and investors choose so carefully.

This is my path to “overnight success”:
- 1982-1985: 2 degrees: Animal Science & Agricultural/Environmental Science;
- 1985-1989: NYS Vet Tech
- 1989-1992: CardioPulmonary Research Tech at SUNY UB
- 1991: Reflexology Certification
- 1992-2004: Addictions Research Technician & Project Manager, SUNY UB
- 1992: Reiki I & Reiki II Certifications
- 1995: Reiki Master Certification
- 1998: NY Institute of Massage grad
- 1998: NYS Licensed Massage Therapist
- 1998 - Current: Great Lakes Therapeutic Massage, (Owner)
- 2011: BS Alternative & Complimentary Therapies, SUNY
- 2012-2015: Part-time Instructor at Trocaire College & NY Institute of Massage
- 2018: Ordination through Universalist Life Church

The intention of this post isnt to brag or elevate my ego, this post is meant to inform and offer insight as to who I am.

My business has been successful because I’ve invested my time, energy, money, sweat-equity and EDUCATING myself into making it successful, and that didn’t happen overnight. Over the last 43 years I’ve worked fulltime while earning degrees. When I opened my massage practice in 1998, I continued to work fulltime at UB for 6 years until I had a steady, solid stream of clients before leaving the financial security of UB. My business has 0-debts, I’ve never taken a loan or asked for financial backing, it’s been built upon hard work, reliability, sound morals, ethics and education.

March of 2026 marks my 28th year PROUDLY in business and joyfully loving what I do. There’s no such thing as “overnight success” that lasts.

Find your passion, set your goals, seek proper education/s, trainings and licensure; construct a solid business model and work hard every day; you will have “overnight success” in no time! 😉 But if you love what you do, you’ll never “work” a day in your life! 🌟

Are you visiting a “spa” who operates shady? If proper licenses and inspections are not lawfully displayed, you may want to question their ethics, morals and legality. ASK questions and garner information prior to booking, especially about their practitioners and their qualifications.
A “good, cheap deal” may be so for a reason. 😉

As someone who’s worked in the medical field for decades, including as a Surgical Tech in University-level Medical Research for 18+ years, I know first-hand how the body has an extraordinary capacity to encapsulate foreign-objects with connective tissue in an attempt to “isolate the intruder.”
While breast implants have soared to popularity since the 1990s, so have the number of women who are reporting illnesses such as (CFS) Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and (FMS) Fibromyalgia Syndrome.
Both of these “diseases” are simply a generalized label from the medical community acknowledging “you’re sick, but we don’t know why…”
As a medical massage therapist I’m seeing an up-tick in clients having their implants removed. What you view as “feeling like crap” may actually be your body screaming “help!” and trying, desperately, to protect you.
