At 16, I'd wear a gray sweatsuit, run a mile, and naively believe I'd mastered fitness. The Marine Corps quickly corrected that. From running behind beefy guys in the gym, trying to emulate their routines, to stumbling upon CrossFit, my fitness journey evolved.

I'd been that clueless kid and later became the one leading, teaching, and inspiring. I watched as people shed weights, regained confidence, and transformed before my eyes. Their stories of rejuvenation often clashed with medical advice that warned them away from the very exercises that transformed them. I knew there had to be a better way.

Driven to make a real difference, I dived deep into understanding movement, pain, and rehabilitation. But even as a budding physical therapist, I was shocked at how little our education centered on real-life fitness techniques. Taking matters into my hands, I experimented, innovated, and iterated using my gym as a testing ground.

The lessons I've learned weren't from textbooks but from real people with real goals. Today, as a physical therapist and coach, I merge strength, conditioning, and genuine care to transform lives. My journey, from clueless to coach, is a testament: Never stop learning, never stop evolving, and always believe in the power of change.

Every day we have patients come into the office with different diagnoses and impairments that impact their lives. Oftentimes, people come to us after being failed by many medical/health care professionals or after insurance stops covering care. These patients come to us frustrated and misinformed, thinking they will never fully recover. They believe that their treatment to this point has “helped,” but in reality, they are still in pain and not close to their functional goals.

To achieve lasting recovery, maintain optimal health (and to claim your spot on our ) you must understand the importance of all the factors beyond physical exercise.

Sleep, nutrition, and hydration all play vital roles in injury prevention and recovery.

Neglecting proper sleep can hinder productive restorative processes, while poor nutrition and inadequate hydration can impair healing and energy levels.

To truly thrive and enjoy a fulfilling life, it is crucial to establish healthy habits that encompass all aspects of well-being. If you don't know where to start.. ask us!

There’s a difference. And depending on the approach your PT takes.. it can effect your outcomes! This is why it’s important to see an expert who can actually help you address root cause and get you back the things you want to do.. and KEEP you there!

Fixing pain is the easy part.

Why does neck position matter when you lift? 🤔

It matters because.. we said so! 😉 just kidding. When it comes to lifting, whether it's in the gym or during our daily activities, this is one aspect often gets overlooked.

While most might disregard this, improper neck alignment could be the culprit behind those pesky shoulder and neck pains.

It’s all about spine alignment. Think about it..

Imagine putting in all the effort to ensure your spine is correctly aligned, only to have it thrown off because of your head position. All the bracing, squeezing, and inhaling to maintain spinal integrity during a squat, for example, can be undone if your neck isn't in the right position.

A neutral neck position helps with:

👉 Proper thoracic and lumbar spine alignment
👉 Reduced upper trap compensations
👉 Enhanced breathing ability
👉 Stronger neural drive

Give it a try the next time you lift. Compare the force and stability when you're arching your neck with when it's in the neutral position. Many have found they're stronger and have better endurance when they maintain this position. Plus, your lifting techniques will look and feel smoother.

This past Saturday we ended the July Series with our first Summer Showoff!

Our athletes showed up and showed off all the skills they gained and movements they learned over the past few months to their families and friends. Coach Mel and I are extremely proud of all the hard work and effort put forth by our athletes and their parents / caregivers! Our athletes learned to do box jumps, sn**ch, deadlift, burpees, row, and so much more! This group of athletes is living proof that when you give kids the opportunity and the room to grow, they will surpass ALL your expectations!!

Did you know that relying solely on MRI findings can sometimes result in disappointing and prolonged suffering?

Let's take the example of a torn meniscus diagnosis. Just because the scan shows it, doesn't mean it's the true cause behind your pain!

Here's the thing: thorough clinical assessments and considering a cluster of clinical findings are essential for accurate diagnoses and effective treatments.

Skipping these steps might mean missing out on the real source of your pain, which could lead to ineffective outcomes. 😣

So next time you're seeking medical advice, remember that it's not all about the MRI results. Make sure your healthcare provider takes the time to understand your unique situation and consider a comprehensive evaluation from a physical therapist that understand what you’re trying to get back to.. pain free!

👋 Help us welcome our newest addition to the MOVE team, Dr. Camille Clawson!

Camille is originally from Rochester, NY and graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from University at Buffalo. (Go Bills!)

Camille has had an interest in health and fitness all her life, valuing both the physical and mental benefits of physical activity.

Upon earning her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, she went on to pursue her Doctorate of Physical Therapy because she is passionate about utilizing movement to improve people's quality of life and help them return to doing what they love.

Camille's background in strength & conditioning enables her to better bridge the gap between rehab and peak performance. She aims to provide a holistic approach to care, encompassing all aspects of what it means to be healthy, in order to help others confidently reach their goals. 

Outside of work, Camille enjoys staying active at the gym, spending time outdoors hiking or rollerblading, as well as reading and cuddling with her cat.
