As we approach the New Year, I think it’s important to share about setting intentions instead of resolutions and why.
The reason resolutions fail so often and people end up resetting them every year is because people choose January 1st to work on numerous goals at once and once that fails, they give up.
Instead, intentions allow space for progress over perfection and, more importantly, allow you to add new intentions and as you go rather than a hard set January 1st date.
I like to focus on one intention each month so that it becomes habitual and then add a new intention for the next month. For example, my January intention is to improve sleep quality through various activities and then in February, I want to focus on financial wellness once my sleep routine is well established.
This mindset allows for a trial and error period where you can keep what works and discard what doesn’t without feeling like you’ve failed on your resolution.
Just a thought from the mind of a therapist who is wishing you well in the new year! 🫶🏻
