Here are the most common questions we get. Feel free to ask more and we will answer them right away.
"What is an end-of-life doula?"
An end-of-life doula is a nonmedical professional there to care for a terminal person’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs during their journey. We pair perfectly with hospice and compliment their services. While hospice may only visit periodically, we can provide around the clock care so you or your loved one is never alone.
"What exactly do you do?"
Our scope of care varies. Sometimes we only sit vigil while loved ones work, sleep or take a break. Sometimes we can administer medications prescribed by a doctor, check vitals, help plan events, help with hygiene, provide comfort care, alert family members to changes, answer questions surrounding the situation, etc.
"What is comfort care?"
Comfort care is usually a term that medical professionals use to describe the stopping of life saving measures and providing medication to ease pain and anxiety. Our definition of comfort care is playing music, talking, caring touch, keeping the mouth moist, keeping a peaceful energy, making sure the environment is death positive, helping loved ones understand the situation so they are at peace, and advocating for a comfortable death.
"Where do your services take place?"
We come to you or your loved one. We provide our services for those in their homes, hospitals, nursing homes and hospice homes.
"What are the costs associated with these services?"
While costs vary depending on the scope of care, Graceful Endings charges hourly. Insurance does not cover this service and it must be paid by those seeking care. Hourly prices vary from $15-35 per hour. In certain circumstances, people that meet certain federal poverty guidelines can get services for $10 per hour with a minimum of 20 hours per week.
