Dementia can sometimes lead to impulsive language like profanity, which is often a sign of frustration, not disrespect. A calm and compassionate response is key.

Tips for responding effectively:

🙂 Stay composed and non-reactive.
Your calm presence can help de-escalate the situation.

🤝 Acknowledge their emotions.
Validating their feelings can reduce tension.

🎨 Gently redirect.
Introduce a soothing activity or topic to engage their attention.

✅ Observe triggers.
Noting what may have caused the outburst helps you address it proactively in the future.

Our LUMINATIONS® Memory Care residents had absolute blast at our Beach Blanket Bingo Day! ☀️🏐

We turned our Forum Theatre into the ultimate staycation spot. The day kicked off with some surprisingly competitive volleyball with our Director of Fitness, Jackson. It took 5 games to crown a champion, but the laughs were worth every second!

After working up an appetite, we enjoyed a classic lunch and a movie, watching Beach Blanket Bingo. And of course, we ended the day with the main event—a lively round of Bingo!

It was a day full of fun, friends, and fantastic memories. What a great way to "vacation" right here at home!

Our residents spent the day at the beautiful Wilson's Orchard & Farm - Des Moines, a place rich with history and delicious apples.
