Homebirth & Women's Care in Central Iowa With Women Midwifery is a full scope midwifery service caring for women in Central Iowa.

We are proud to offer home birth services in the Des Moines metro and surrounding areas! We are committed to walking with women and supporting them throughout their life including childbirth, parenting, wellness and self care. We are passionate about empowering women through education, shared decision making and evidence based midwifery care.

✨Business Update✨

There is some exciting news to share with the birth community!

Midwives, Lauren Delgado and Kayla Harajli are excited to announce the merge between Home Sweet Home & With Women.
Their practices will be joining together as one and called Heart of Iowa.

The midwives will continue to see women for prenatal care, home births, well woman exams, preconception visits, and more.

Their clinic space is located in West Des Moines & they are eager to continue serving this community! This merge allows the midwives to enjoy doing what they love, but also spend time with their own families and children.

Do I need a doula?

Doulas are not midwives! Doulas are trained childbirth attendants who offer physical, emotional, and informational support to women throughout the birth process. A doula does not provide medical care or perform any clinical tasks.

We highly recommend working with a doula! A doula will be at your side throughout the birth process, often before your midwife arrives. While your midwife's focus is on you & your baby's safety, your doula will be encouraging and coaching you through your labor. This may look like positional changes, affirmations, or reminding you to eat/drink/empty your bladder.

Why choose water birth?

Delayed cord clamping is the practice of waiting to clamp and cut the umbilical cord after a baby is born.

Research has shown that babies who received delayed cord clamping at birth have:

-higher iron stores for up to 6 months
-decreased risk of anemia
-decreased risk of infection
-higher birth weight

In our practice, delayed cord clamping is part of routine care. There are few instances in which we’d need to cut the cord very shortly after birth.

Do you do ultrasounds?

We can do limited obstetrical ultrasounds in the office! These kinds of ultrasounds help us calculate your due date, confirm number of babies in the uterus, see a baby’s heartbeat, and confirm your baby’s position.

For more in-depth, diagnostic scans, we have referral relationships with local radiology clinics.
