Perspective is Everything

How you view reality is different than how another may view reality.

That’s wild, right?

The way we see the world is colored by our personal experiences, beliefs, and emotions.

It’s easy to get caught up in our own perspective, believing our view to be the truth. But just because it’s true for you, it doesn’t mean it’s true for another. When we project our own narratives onto others, we forget that their stories, their perspective, might be very different.

And if we don’t have space for multiple perspectives, we are working against our very nature.

We all hold multiple perspectives in our own system. If you’ve ever felt torn making a decision, held Yes and No simultaneously, or struggled with internal conflict, you’ve held more than one truth about yourself, your life, your relationships.

Having space for multiple perspectives in yourself and between others allows us to tap into empathy and compassion.

There is a bigger picture, an expanded narrative, and a more connected way to live - multiple perspectives adds to the richness of the human experience!

Tune into to your own perspectives, hold them as one way to view the world, and see if you can find the wisdom in those that offer a different view.

If you want to grow big, grow deep.

It’s easy to get caught up in the “show and tell” mentality, but if you really want to grow big, grow deep.

Non ordinary approaches like IFS and KAP are all about the deeper internal work that reminds you who you are under all the doing.

And it’s this kind of rooted life that sustains the great things you can bring to the world.

I’m simultaneously exhausted and fulfilled.

I can’t even begin to describe the KAP Experiential weekend…what a phenomenal group of therapists who courageously opened up to vulnerability both personally and professionally.

Did you know we can do things like this as colleagues and humans?

It’s time to rewrite the narrative for mental health practitioners…we are all in this together and community is the key.

The summer cohort of Mastering Ketamine Assisted Therapy: A Comprehensive Certification Course is opening soon and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

What are you waiting for?

Begin moving towards what you’re not ready for.

Have the conversation, begin the research, create the website, sign up for the workshop.

Speaking of workshops, if learning about ketamine assisted psychotherapy is on your “wait until I’m ready” list, now is the time to register for the April event in West Des Moines, IA.

This is the perfect opportunity to learn about ketamine therapies, how to assist clients in integrating this treatment into mental healthcare, and even gain a personal experience with this approach.

Ketamine and Psychedelic Assisted Therapy are effective modalities emerging in mental health…if you’re a professional in this space, it is essential to build your awareness of how this will impact the field (and your clients).

You may not feel ready - and now is as good a time as any to take the first step.

An Other indicates separateness while Another indicates sameness.

Given the state of our world today, it’s easy to slip into the mindset of “us vs. them”.

What if we paused long enough to really see another and allow space for multiple experiences and perspectives to exist?

In the world of IFS Therapy (Internal Family Systems), we learn to recognize and honor the different parts of ourselves, holding the inherent wisdom of each part as an essential aspect of the whole.

When we see someone as “another,” we acknowledge their humanity, their struggles, and their dreams—just like ours. Even when we don’t understand, or completely disagree, with another, we can remain open to the deeper processes and context of beliefs, behaviors, and expectations.

Here are a few ways to practice this in your daily life:

1. Pause & take a U Turn: When you feel a sense of division with someone, take a moment to breathe and connect with your own feelings. What part of you feels threatened, and what part seeks understanding?

2. Tap into Curiosity: Begin to ask questions. What might they be experiencing? How can you relate to their story? This creates bridges instead of walls.

3. Speak for yourself: Open up about your own experiences. Vulnerability fosters connection and reminds us that we’re all navigating this journey together.

4. Stay Rooted: Always return to your own center. Acknowledge your feelings and beliefs while remaining open to others. This balance nurtures a sense of belonging for both you and those around you.

Remember we’re all in this together.
