Our Story
Dr. Barbara Scheetz is a Des Moines native, a graduate of Dowling High School, and Drake University. She received her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the University of Houston in 1989. Upon graduating, she returned to practice in the Des Moines area. In 1997 Dr. Scheetz was appointed by the governor to be a member of the Iowa Board of Optometric Examiners, which she was a part of for nine years. In 1998, Barbara received "The Young Optometrist of the Year Award" for the state of Iowa. The award is given to an optometrist who shows leadership, dedication and commitment to the profession. Our professional staff can help fit you into a pair of glasses that are just right for you. We are experts in fitting contact lenses as well and can handle the most specialized needs. Wheter you need soft or rigid, monovision or bifocal lenses, we are experienced in handling the most difficult of prescriptions. Our optical laboratory has the latest equipment to not only fabricate your glasses, but to maintain and repair them should they become damaged or broken. All outside prescriptions are welcome. Our lab technitions are able to tint, coat, harden and edge spectacle lenses. Our highly qualified staff are able to adjust and fit your glasses to you for the best comfort and vision. We are pleased to introduce the newest addition to our qualified team, Dr. Kreg Harper. Dr. Harper is an Iowa native hailing from Panora, Iowa, in Guthrie County. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and then received his doctorate from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago.
Dr. Harper brings with him a wealth of experience. He spent his immediate post graduate time in fellowship at the Minneapolis Eye Consultants specializing in laser refractive surgery and advanced glaucoma treatment. Following his time in Minnesota, he received additional training and/or was employed in some of the most prestigious ophthalmology practices in the upper Midwest including: Tobin Eye Institute in MO; Omaha Eye & Laser Institute in NE; and Wolfe Eye Clinic in Iowa. Dr. Harper specializes in medical eye care related to diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis; glaucoma, cataracts and eye pathology. He also treats eye infections, evaluates LASIK candidates in addition to performing routine eye exams and fitting contact lenses.
Dr. Harper has 2 adult children, Katherine a nurse in Des Moines and Eli pursuing further education in medicine in Denver. His interests include his pets, music & travel. I am confident you will find Dr. Harper's personality and style to compliment our friendly and warm optometric team.
