The internet might hate me for saying this, but…
It’s normal — and even protective — for women to gain some weight before menopause.
I see women all the time who are healthy, thriving, and living full lives… but still obsessed with losing those “last 5–10 pounds” to get back to where they once were.
In reality, if you feel like your hormones are working against you, you’re half right. They are working — but they’re actually working for you, just not in the way you might expect.
As estrogen begins to shift, your body uses a little extra weight to:
• Provide a backup source of estrogen (through fat cells).
• Support bone density and muscle mass.
• Act as a buffer against extreme hormone swings and hot flashes.
Your body isn’t sabotaging you. It’s protecting you.
This is why it’s so hard for us to look exactly like we did in our 20s — because our bodies literally have a different agenda now. And that agenda is survival, resilience, and long-term health.
Instead of waging war on those few pounds, what if you reframed them as your body’s built-in insurance policy?
Let’s stop aiming for being the smallest version of yourself and focus on being the strongest, most supported version of yourself.
