This Stress Awareness Month, the focus goes beyond awareness. It’s about building systems that support the people delivering care every day.

Let’s work together to strengthen workforce wellbeing and improve outcomes. Visit our website to get connected with the Midwest QIN-QIO.

Emergency preparedness gaps are one of the most common findings during healthcare surveys.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently updated its Emergency Preparedness Provider Guidance. While there are no regulatory or surveyor guidance changes, the update reinforces the importance of being proactive and coordinated when preparing for emergencies.
Key themes include:
✔ Planning for all hazards, including disruptions like cyber incidents or infrastructure failures
✔ Strengthening mitigation strategies that support response and recovery
✔ Maintaining readiness through training, testing, and ongoing plan updates
✔ Building regional coordination, because no organization responds to disasters alone
📊 The graphic below from CMS highlights the Top Five Emergency Preparedness Deficiencies most commonly cited during surveys.
If your facility is working to strengthen its emergency preparedness program or address common findings, Midwest QIN-QIO can help. Our team works with providers to support planning, training, and coordination efforts that strengthen readiness across the healthcare system.
