Right at Home is honored to highlight Jasper, a care professional from Right at Home Overland Park, Kansas, for the compassion and thoughtfulness she brings to her work every day. When Jasper learned that her client Linda would be spending her 56th wedding anniversary without her late husband, she found a beautiful way to honor their love. Knowing that Linda still greets and speaks to her husband each day, Jasper drew a portrait of him so Linda could feel his presence more closely. She also brought her flowers, not from herself, but as a loving gesture "from her husband," just as he would have done.

Jasper’s actions reflect the heart of our mission to improve the quality of life for those we serve. She reminded us that caregiving is not just about meeting physical needs, but about recognizing the emotional depth of each person’s story. We are grateful to Jasper for her empathy, creativity, and the meaningful connection she has built with Linda.

At 91, Dottie Dorion has crushed over 2,900 Peloton rides, but when she saw the age categories capped at 60+, she wasn’t about to compete with “those young 80-year-olds.”

Determined to make a change, Dottie launched a 14-month campaign, writing letters and even enlisting legal help to push Peloton to recognize older riders. Eventually, her persistence paid off, and Peloton added new age brackets for 90+ and 100+ riders.

Dottie's a lifelong athlete with 250+ marathons and triathlons under her belt, including three Ironmans. She has been moving since childhood and doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon.

Dottie shares, “You can never give up. If you’re doing the right things for the right reasons, it’s gonna turn out well.”

The 9th annual Senior Retreat Day was held July 22, 2025, at the Sheraton Inn West Des Moines, IA and I was excited to not only participate by having a table in the vendor fair but also be a sponsor of the event as the new owner of Right at Home Des Moines! Senior Retreat Day is organized and hosted by a group called Seniors on the Move and it aims to provide seniors with resources and inspiration to live a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. Seniors on the Move offers education, social activities, guidance regarding decisions related to aging and senior group travel opportunities locally, across the U.S. and internationally- GOOD STUFF! People can choose to be members of the group through an annual fee which allows them to receive discounts on these offerings, particularly for travel. Senior Retreat Day included a vendor fair, guest speakers, member collaboration, fashion show, and a delicious lunch served by the Sheraton Inn. It was a perfect kick-off to our renewed community involvement in Des Moines!
