I was chatting to a client the other day and she commented on how it feels like she is constantly pushing a huge boulder up a steep incline when it comes to getting her Diabetes under control.

She has all the information she needs. She has done lots of research. She has tried plenty diets before.

And yet still she feels like she is pushing a giant boulder up a hill and that boulder keeps rolling back down the hill.

This lead to a discussion of purposeful planning.

In other words... How rather than making the boulder so huge that you can't get it up the hill... to Rather break the boulder up into smaller pieces and get it up the hill that way.

Either way you will get to the top. But one way feels impossible. While the other way is manageable. One way leads to a constant cycle of frustration and failure. While the other yields progress and results.

Now while this may all sound simple in theory... it can actually be quite tricky when it comes to navigating your Diabetes.

In light of this... I will be running a free workshop to help you with a strategic step-by-step method to help you reach your health goals entitled:

"Mastering Your Diabetes: The Power of Purposeful Planning".

If you would be interested in attending this workshop, and honing in on some highly impactful skills to get your blood sugars under control, then please let us by commenting “interested” in the comments and we will DM you with the details.

**Please note that this workshop is only open to Residents of Ontario**

Today we're diving into a common struggle many individuals face: conflicting advice.

There is so much conflicting information out there that things can get very confusing. One article may suggest one dietary approach, while another recommends something entirely different.

This disparity can leave you feeling confused and unsure of which path to follow.

But don’t worry, because we're here to help you navigate through the noise and find clarity in your diabetes management journey. Here are a few strategies to help you sift through conflicting advice:

Consult a Trusted Source: Get help from reputable sources such as healthcare professionals, certified diabetes educators, or registered dietitians who specialize in diabetes management.

Consider Individual Factors: Remember that what works for one person may not work for another. Consider your unique health status, preferences, lifestyle, and cultural background when evaluating advice.

Evaluate Scientific Evidence: Look for evidence-based information supported by scientific research and clinical studies. It’s very important to Pay attention to the credibility of the sources and the quality of the evidence presented. As we all know … there is lots of misleading information out there.

Experiment Mindfully: If you're considering trying a new approach, do so mindfully and monitor how it affects your blood sugar levels, energy levels, and overall well-being. Keep track of any changes and adjust accordingly.

Welcome to Day 1 of our series:  Unlocking the secrets to Better Blood Sugar Management  DAY 1.

In a world where information about diabetes is readily available, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and uncertain about which advice to follow. That's where personalized guidance comes in.

That's why individualized support, tailored to your specific & unique needs, preferences, and lifestyle, is essential.

Whether it's understanding your individual dietary requirements, finding an exercise routine that fits seamlessly into your life, or navigating the complexities of medication management, personalized support can provide the guidance and encouragement you need to succeed.

Tapping into this uniqueness can really be the difference between average and exceptional when it comes to your Diabetes management.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's post, where we'll delve into another crucial aspect of diabetes management.

We were recently challenged to explain what we do in the shortest way possible… so here it goes:

We Help people know exactly what to eat for their Type 2 Diabetes through individualised education + the latest Diabetes research & Guidelines + personalization.

No weird tactics. No extreme diets. No nonsense.  No strange foods. No generic 15 minute appointments.

Just the latest research, individualised education, that’s perfectly matched to your own unique blood sugar response … (and medications prescribed by your doctor if needed).

And voila… blood sugars and A1c’s in the ideal range.

It’s our love language. It’s What we absolutely love doing.

Simple

That’s it.

Do you ever wonder why, despite the amount of reading and research that you have done about how to eat for Type 2 Diabetes, you still can’t get the blood sugar levels that you want?

Well here are a few possible scenarios….

Scenario #1. You haven’t read the correct information… Now in all likelihood this probably isn’t the case, because, let’s be honest there is a LOT of information out there about how to eat for Type 2 Diabetes.

Scenario #2. There is so much conflicting information out there that you are overwhelmed, confused and frustrated. And so despite the hours that you have spent doing research you are still no better off.

Scenario #3. You still need accountability and support. Despite technically knowing what to do, actually putting that into action is not easy on your own and you need help… Doing this alone is tough!!

Scenario #4. You need to identify your unique blood sugar response. Just about everyone responds to food differently and has a different blood sugar response. And until you can nail that down, getting your blood sugars to stabilize will be tricky.

Scenario #5. A combination of one or more of the above scenarios.

How do we know this? Well…  In over 20+ years of helping people with Diabetes these are the reasons we have found that most people struggle.

If this is you and you have decided that enough is enough then perhaps information on its own isn’t enough.

Perhaps it’s time for a change.

We use a unique approach to help people get their blood sugars down. It’s a personalised and individualised 3-step approach.

In short…

1.       We make sure that you have the correct information (to help with scenario 1 # , # 2 and/ or #5)

2.       We identify your unique blood sugar response (to help with scenario #3, #4 and/ or #5)

3.       We provide accountability and support very step of the way (to help with scenario #3, #4 and/or #5)
Simple. It’s as easy as that.

Because let’s be honest with ourselves. If it was just information that we needed, we would all have excellent blood sugar control already.

If this sounds like the help that you need then reply with the word HELP and we will be in touch.

We couldn’t let the month of love go by without mentioning your heart. But as well as celebrating love we thought we would celebrate your heart too.

And what better way to celebrate than with food.

If you have Type 2 Diabetes you have most likely heard that you are at risk for heart disease.

You have most probably also heard that the Mediterranean diet is one of the best diets to prevent heart disease.

One of the parts of the Mediterranean diet that makes it so healthy is all the olive oil that is used in that part of the world.

A scientific paper was recently released looking at why olive oil is so beneficial.

Results from the study show that including olive oil as a regular part of your diet can reduce heart disease.

In fact, the study showed that including 25g olive per day can reduce cardiovascular disease by 14%.

The study also showed that including 25g olive in the diet each day can reduce the risk of Type 2 Diabetes by 22%.

The study also suggests that the biggest health benefits are seen in people with the lowest intakes of meat and in those with have moderate alcohol consumption.

The conclusion of the study is that using olive as the main added fat, in the context of a healthy diet, is highly beneficial and can go a long way in preventing heart disease.

So let’s celebrate your heart by taking this one little step!

Did you know that having diabetes can increase your risk of heart disease and stroke?

Taking care of your heart and staying healthy is really important, especially if you're dealing with diabetes.

It might sound like a lot, but there are things you can do to lower the chances of heart disease and stroke.

Reducing your risks starts with keeping your diabetes in check.

When your blood sugar is high, it can damage your blood vessels over time.

A lot of people with diabetes also have other things going on, like extra weight, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high triglycerides. These things can increase the chances of heart disease.

The “good” thing about these risk factors is that they are often what we call modifiable risk factors. In other words we can change them.

How do we do this?...

In short, One of the best ways to do that is to make sure that you are eating correctly.

Getting your diet right can bring down your blood sugar, your cholesterol, your triglycerides and your weight.

And so improving your diet is one of the places to start!

In addition to diet, there are also some other ways to take care of yourself:
·         If you smoke, it's a good idea to stop. Smoking damages your blood vessels and can worsen heart disease.
·         Get moving! Aim for at least 150 minutes each week of moderate aerobic activity, like a brisk walk. You can split this up into 30 minutes each day, or even three 10-minute walks if that works better for you.
Most importantly, stay positive. Lots of people with diabetes live healthy lives, and you can too!

Eating properly to get your blood sugars under control can often be tricky.

There is often lots of trial and error and many moments of frustration and overwhelm along the way.

But one of the biggest challenges that people seem to face is lack of support and accountability.

In reality it is extremely difficult to get long lasting results on your own.

Yes there are some people out there who seem to manage this all by themselves.

But… for the most part people do much better with support and accountability to help them achieve their goals.

And I must say that the majority of the clients enrolled in our 12-week program, have said that they would really struggle without the support and accountability that they get.

Over the last 20 years I can’t even count how many women with type 2 Diabetes I’ve now helped to get their diet right and get their blood sugars down to target.

People think I’m crazy when I say that I love my work. But what I really love is seeing is the transformation that we are capable of when we have the right plan, the right coaching, and on-going support.

So if you’re wondering how I help clients achieve such remarkable results, and more importantly how I might be able to help you, then here’s what I’d recommend.

Step 1:
Start by watching the Masterclass training (– link in BIO)

Inside, I’ll show you exactly how I do what I do and how it could potentially help you as well. If you like what you see and you’d like my help, then…

Step 2:
If you like the sound of the 3 simple steps that we use to help our clients get their blood sugars down to target (this is what the masterclass training is all about), then step 2 will be explained to you at the end of the video 😃

So if you need help and support to get your blood sugars down, then start by watching the Masterclass and we’ll take it from there.

Hey there! 👋

During consultations I often get asked about the numbers associated with Diabetes. I often get asked what numbers people should be aiming for, what is too high, what is too low etc.

So I thought I'd take a moment to share some key information with you. Understanding these values is really important for managing diabetes effectively.

Let's dive into the diagnostic criteria for diabetes and the recommended targets for glycaemic control.

Understanding these diagnostic criteria is essential because they help identify whether someone has diabetes. Early detection allows for timely intervention and better management of the condition.

Diagnostic criteria for Diabetes

Fasting blood sugar ≥ 7mmol/l  OR

A1c ≥ 6.5% OR

2hPG in a 75 g Oral Glucose Tolerance Test  ≥11.1 mmol/L

Random blood sugar ≥ 11.1mmol/l

Diagnostic criteria for pre-Diabetes

Fasting blood sugar 6.1 – 6.9 mmol/l

A1c 6.0 – 6.4%

2hPG in a 75 g Oral Glucose Tolerance Test  7.8 - 11 mmol/L

Once diagnosed with diabetes, it's important to set targets for glycaemic control. These targets help individuals with diabetes maintain their blood sugar levels within a healthy range. These targets have been set at values where the least amount of damage or complications are likely to occur.

Here are the recommended targets:

Targets for control

Most adults who are at low risk for hypoglycaemia with Type 2 Diabetes should aim for an  A1c ≤6.5%

Most adults with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes should aim for an A1C ≤7%

Why are these targets important? Maintaining blood sugar levels within these ranges helps prevent complications associated with diabetes, such as heart disease, kidney problems, and nerve damage. It also supports overall well-being and helps individuals lead a healthier and more active life.

Remember, these are general guidelines, and your healthcare team will personalize your targets based on your health status and lifestyle. Regular monitoring and open communication with your healthcare team are key to successful diabetes management.
