Learn the Art of EFT: The Journey of Learning Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) - From Gallery Tour to Studio Practice
“The act of psychotherapy has often been described as an art form — a blending of science, intuition, and presence. EFT is no different.
Learning Sue's model is a creative, lifelong journey toward therapeutic artistry.”
— Robin Williams Blake, ICEEFT Trainer
The EFCT Training Map
24-hour EFCT Externship
Like taking a guided tour of a museum, the Externship introduces you to the landscape of EFCT — its history, structure, and emotional power. You begin to understand the architecture of attachment and the elegant structure of the model. You get the map, the theory, and the purpose behind every piece.
And while we can no longer meet EFT's curator in person, Sue Johnson’s vision lives on in her videos, her writings, her wisdom - the Sueisms. Her spirit guides the tour, reminding us that love is not a bargain it's a bond.
Core Skills Additional Training
Core Skills invites you to return to that museum, this time as a student of the art itself. You stop in front of the pieces that move you. You linger. You study the brushstrokes. You begin to feel what it’s like to hold the brush yourself. You explore. You’re curious. You’re in a safe and secure place to ask about your personal artistic blocks — surrounded by a small cohort and supported by seasoned artists.
EFCT Consultation - minumum 8 hours
In consultation, you step into the studio. Here, under the guidance of a supervisor you begin to paint. You try something, reflect, adjust. Your consultant doesn’t paint for you; they support your process, helping you see things you may not yet notice — where the emotion is blooming, where the cycle slips by, where your therapist voice can strengthen. This is where your artistry takes shape — informed by structure, grounded in science, and infused with your unique humanity.
Peer Consultation (Optional)
Many participants form peer consultation groups — spaces to keep learning and practicing together. These groups become a secure base and safe haven, where you can lean in, try new moves, share your struggles, and keep growing together.
Are you ready to walk back into the museum? My colleague Dr. Senem Zeytinoglu Saydam and I have a new core skills starting on April 22nd at 10 AM.
