Summer is a great time to start potty training for many reasons.

✔️ Easier to get liquids into your little ones- water, popsicles, freezes and fruit are all great ways of getting liquid in which means more opportunities to p*e
✔️ Easier to walk around bare bottomed at the beginning, or in shorts or dresses as it's warmer outside
✔️ More time outside= less mess inside when you are first starting out
✔️ More time at home- long weekends every month in the summer make it easier to begin potty training with extra time spent at home
✔️ Readiness for September - many little ones are beginning preschool or JK which requires them to be potty trained

Regressions!

There are many reasons that they may happen during potty training. Changes in routine, a new house, a new sibling or a change of environment are a few possible reasons regressions may happen

Some tips for working through them:

✔️ Identify the Cause- You want to rule out anything medical before looking at other possible reasons for a regression- ✔️ Go back to basics- You may need to backtrack a few steps and do some bare-bottomed time or even prompting your little one a bit more. You want to help get them back on track and boost their confidence
✔️ Remain consistent- Consistency is key! They need to know that you are working with them. Staying consistent will also help keep things less confusing for them
✔️ Stay positive- This will not last forever, so even though its tough keep positive for your little one and help them through it
✔️ Reach out for help- If you need assistance please reach out for help. You do not need to go through this alone

Which one did you start with/plan to use when you begin potty training?

While it is important for them to practice on both, it is always recommended to use the floor potty for pooping at the beginning because it offers better positioning.

Having both at home provides your little one with the chance to use both, preparing them for times you may be out and not have the floor potty

This is a common question I am asked when families are starting out. How do you choose a potty

✔️ How many should you Buy- this depends on your set up at home. You want them easily accessible especially at the beginning without your little one needing to go too far to get to it. You may also want to buy a potty as well as the seat for a toilet
✔️ Get your little one involved - this is a great way to get them excited about starting. They can choose a favourite colour or character
✔️ Try it out if possible- an uncomfortable potty will be discouraging so if there's the opportunity for your little one to sit on it for a minute or two they (and you) should be able to see if it looks uncomfortable

False!

While it may be tempting to put your little one on the potty every 15 minutes when you begin potty training, this does not actually help with the progress. You want to be looking for their cues and putting them on the potty when you see them. This is also so they learn when they have to go. Most little ones when they begin potty training can hold their p*e for about 2 hours (or more), so putting them on the potty at the set intervals will not help them, as most likely they will not be going.
