Lifestyle, diet & fitness THRIVES off short-term gimmicks.

Unfortunatley, it's what sells.

It sells purely because it focuses on peoples desperation and insecurities that they would love to have an easy solution to. Fitness shouldn't be looked at as a "solution" to solve problems, but rather a way to live your life in a way that will serve you in the long haul.

These short term fitness challenges aren’t going to change your life, they are selling you a fantasy.

The industry (and the trainers pushing them) know that lasting change doesn’t happen in a packaged and sell-able timeline.

Habits take months, years, and a whole lot of real-life messiness in between. These challenges push you in a way that isn’t realistic, therefore it won’t be long lasting

(Most) Fitness influencers are the new women’s magazine at the checkout line, giving you false promises, misleading “quick fixes,” and completely unrealistic narratives about bodies and health.

Just like those magazine covers shouting “Drop 10 pounds in 10 days,” as soon as we show interest in fitness and movement, our feeds are filled with “hacks” that ignore science, sustainability, and real people’s lived experiences.

It’s bu****it that is designed to sell, not to support.

Your body deserves more than clickbait advice. Unfollow, block, curate your feed to fitness advice that actually makes you feel motivated and excited.

I’ve been doing some decluttering lately, and tucked away in a drawer in the basement I found my business cards, from way back in 2015, before Body Positive Fitness was even born.

Back then, I went by “JD PT” and called myself a body positive personal trainer. This was about 2 years before the first Body Positive Fitness class. I had started to despise the gyms I’d worked for over a decade — spaces where I’d felt unsafe, disrespected, and constantly battling against a toxic culture. I was ready to do my own thing, even if I was terrified.

I remember starting an anonymous Instagram account about body liberation and body love, too scared to show my face because I knew the backlash from the gym world would be ugly.

In time, I started running my own body positive classes and showing up online as myself — and everything (quickly) changed.

The media came calling — CBC, CTV, Metro Morning, The Toronto Star — all wanting to hear from “the trainer in a plus-size body” who was calling out the industry. Back then, that was… unheard of.

Looking at these old cards and news clippings, I’m reminded just how far we’ve come, and how much I’ve grown, (both physically and emotionally). What we’ve built together is so fu***ng exciting, and I’m nowhere near done.

We’ve been sold the idea that consistency means doing the same thing every single week. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, weights here, cardio there, forever.

But real consistency comes from giving yourself flexibility. Some weeks you might do four strength sessions, other weeks just two. Some weeks you do more cardio, other weeks less. It’s showing up in a way that fits your life.

Once you give yourself the flexibility you need, consistency becomes (almost!) effortless.

We've been sold the lie that fitness *looks* a certain way. Slim bodies, defined muscles, cute matching sets. We've seen it sexualized, glamourized, and used to prey on our insecurities.
We want you to know that fitness isn't a look. Fitness is a relationship with your body and movement. It's a practice, and it should evolve with you over time. Fitness is walking, it's strength training, its dancing in your living room. Its swimming, hiking, stretching. It's showing up for yourself over and over again. You don't have to look a certain way to "be fit". Your body doesn't have to change for your fitness practise to be meaningful!

My Story

There's something to be said about feeling comfortable in your own skin. Let alone feeling comfortable in your own skin, in a gym. After working as a personal trainer for over a decade, I have realized the most important approach to health and fitness isn't taken nearly enough.. My passion is helping others FEEL good. I'm here to help you find confidence and strength; in and out of the gym. This is far more important than the numbers on clothing tags and scales.
