Famous Last Words
24.5 Years Of Jeff
Tomorrow [30 January 2026] is Jeff Lariviere’s last day at CAFE. He is retiring. He was with us at Elm Street in Portland, then to Route 1 in Scarborough for ten years, and for the last 12 years, the Dana Warp Mill in Westbrook. Jeff was emblematic of what a CAFE DSP should be. In our soon-to-be 30 year history, no one, not one person, exerted the effort Jeff did. He wielded every ounce of his abilities while working with/for people. He always acknowledged, recognized, and understood that discovering the wants, wishes, and desires of the folks we support is our prevailing mission. Jeff was patient, kind, empathetic, forgiving, and gentle. He never raised his voice, rarely displayed frustration, and regularly unveiled his big giant heart while encouraging and championing the rights of the hundreds of people he helped over the years.
Jeff will be missed. He cannot be superseded. He will be remembered by CAFE. No one else will consistently show up to work 1.5 hours early. No one else can replicate his smile. No one else will love their pets the way he did. No one else will overcome what he overcame, and no one else will ever amplify other’s spirits the way Jeff did. Five minutes with Jeff was preferable to all the medications in the world. We wish him considerable good fortune in his ensuing endeavors. We look forward to his future visits. Even the passage of time will not erase his singular kindness and amiability from our memories. May good fortune surround you.
