In a recent internal survey at our office, we found that 50% of patients reported experiencing dry eye symptoms.

The primary cause of most dry eye and tear film issues can be traced back to problems with the eyelids, rather than the eyes themselves. Common symptoms include crusted eyelashes, itchiness, dryness, tearing, and grittiness.

Spray 5-6 times on a cotton round or paper towel.
Gently close your eyes.
Wipe horizontally along the edges of the eyelids.

The tear film has 3 layers:
1. Oil
2. Water
3. Mucus

Most dry eyes are due to insufficient oil, allowing evaporation of the water. Moving air, reading, and computer use make it worse.
