To Mothers of all kinds

Motherhood isn’t a one-size-fits-all hat you wear or box you live in. Everyone who nurtures and encourages, listens to and leads, lifts up, bends low, sacrifices much, and shows up for another — “mothers”
The ones who hug, dance, and snuggle. The ones who get overwhelmed, whose snarls sometimes come easier than our smiles. The ones who live in the push-pull of exhaustion and joy, in the tumultuous world of feelings and guilt and giving all of ourselves.
The ones who love children we didn’t birth. We’re the neighbors, friends and partners who love these kids as though they’re our own.

The ones who long for more. More grace. More patience. More coffee. More time (always more time). More space — in home and heart. More money. More sleep. More life in our days. More quiet.
At the same time, we’re the ones who long for less. Less laundry. Less fighting. Less yelling. Less clutter. Less selfishness. Less guilt. Less busy. Less stuff. Less dust. Less hustle.

We are thankful for the gift of love given in the form of sticky hands, flown coops, late nights, early mornings, birthday celebrations, cards in the mail, trips to see each other, texts sent, calls placed, and prayers whispered.
We’re empty and full, exhausted and pressing on. We’re tired from mothering, and we’re grateful for mothering.
What a gift the caregivers of this world are ❤️

So no matter who you see as “Mom”, treat them to something wonderful..
……………….maybe even a massage 🤞

✨New Offerings✨

Here at Optimum Health, seeing our clients float out the door after their sessions brings us so much joy! That’s why we’re especially excited to offer two new modalities for you to experience. These are crafted from the requests we have had over the years of what our clients are truly in need of, maybe you?
_____________________________________
The first, Integrative Massage & Energy Work, is a blend of massage therapy and energy healing. We often hear questions like, “What is Reiki? What is energy work? I’d love to try it, but I also need my regular massage.” Now, you don’t have to choose!

Your therapist will check in with you beforehand to determine the balance of massage and energy work that best suits your needs. For example, you might choose to have your back and neck massaged, with the remaining time dedicated to Reiki energy work. The session is fluid—you decide! Or, if you prefer, you can embrace the mystery and trust your therapist to create a balanced session just for you. All of our therapists are Reiki Masters, the highest level of Reiki training. With well over 20 years of experience each, you are truly in good hands!

Integrative Massage & Energy Work
This session is a unique fusion of nourishing massage and energy healing, designed to promote balance and well-being on both the physical and energetic levels. Massage therapy will release tension, ease stress, and promote relaxation while nurturing your body’s natural healing process. Simultaneously, Reiki Master level energy work techniques will help clear blockages and realign your energy flow, enhancing emotional clarity and spiritual harmony. The combination of bodywork and energy healing creates a deeply renewing and revitalizing experience, leaving you feeling refreshed, centered, and in tune with yourself. 60 or 90 minutes

Our second new offering is the Custom Therapeutic Massage—perfect for those who need extra focus on up to two specific areas. This session allows more time than a standard deep tissue massage to address areas of tension, pain, or restricted movement. Your therapist will also assess and work on surrounding areas to ensure maximum effectiveness.

👇description below.

Custom Therapeutic Massage
This session is custom-tailored to provide targeted work on up to two specific areas of the body experiencing pain or restricted range of motion due to injury, surgery, or repetitive movements. To enhance effectiveness, your therapist will also address surrounding or related areas as needed. This is
a therapeutic session designed specifically for your individual needs.
60 or 90 minutes

Not sure or have questions? Give us a call—we’re happy to answer any and all inquiries! This might become your new go-to session, or something you enjoy occasionally, especially when life throws you a curveball and you need extra care on multiple levels.

Reflecting on the Qualities of Autumn
Taking a brief pause each season to ask yourself, “what small changes might I make to support my wellbeing in this moment?”

Understanding our external environment’s changing qualities can reveal a lot about what we need. The first half of autumn in some areas may feel pleasantly warm. But now temps here are flirting with the 40’s and rain adds to feelings of chilliness. If you’re somewhere like Maine, hard freezes have already occurred and snow flakes were sighted earlier this week. Observing these shifts—feeling the coolness, sensing a raw quality creeping in—is a natural invitation to focus on our body/mind’s dance with these sensations.
As the air cools and schedules pick up, I invite you to take a few minutes to tune into the qualities of autumn as it appears around you. Assess the qualities in your environment, your body, and your mind. To start, ask yourself: is there cold or warmth in the air? Is my body dry or hydrated, energized or heavy? Then pick three small actions—whether that’s adding more warming foods to your meals, introducing daily foot baths, or adding a regular pause for warm tea—to balance your personal experience of the season. It’s incredible how intentional small self care tools affect all the layers of us, gross to subtle in huge positive ways.
___________________________________________

Honestly, I could attach a seasonal recipe or some other sort of lengthy “what to do” to create balance in this season but I feel the internet is full of them so I’ll leave that up to you…what I will do is just ask you to pause for 30 seconds…and take the time to check in with YOU. Ask yourself, “how do I feel right now in this moment…what small things could i add if only for today that would be nourishing to me”
And then do it.

“Top Three Tips

#1 No snacks. Be sure to keep your eating to mealtimes. Rather than nibbling at treats all day, take a space of 4-6 hours before eating again. (min 3) Trust us, you WILL feel the difference in your overall digestion if you take nice breaks throughout the festivities.

#2 Sip warm water throughout the day to aid digestion and keep the lymphatic system moving.

#3 Bundle up and take walks.”

What does Immune Boosting mean to you?

Ahh. Take a slow, deep breath. Cooler weather is here. Everywhere around you, the natural world is withdrawing and embracing a long, dark season of slumber and dormancy. There is a particular stillness that characterizes this shift, and with it comes a subtle invitation to redirect our own energies.

But, whats the missing link?

Now we are definitely not going to speak out of scope of practice, but we will speak to what we have seen for over 20 years every day as bodyworkers holding space for peoples pain. What we see initially of course is the physical pain of the "why" someone has come to us which is a real concrete palpable thing, what we also hear is clients putting themselves last. We do not give advice (unless we have known you a really long time and you asked for our thoughts) but we see it. This is one of the missing links to boosting your immune system. Boundaries. Here comes the colder weather and what some might feel is the inevitable cold~flu~holiday stress, but how can we break the cycle?

This season holds the perfect antidote to the fast-paced mobility of the summer. This is a time to rest, reflect, hold space, vision, hibernate, and withdraw some of your outwardly-focused energy and redirect it inward.

Conversely, the calm, peaceful nature of the fall and winter can also seem a bit oppressive at times and can leave us feeling weighed down, stagnant, or uninspired. Actually, every season has the potential to either bolster or encumber your sense of well-being.

This is precisely why a seasonal routine is so important and so helpful. By adapting your diet and lifestyle to better accommodate the changing seasons, you can drastically reduce the likelihood of any seasonally induced imbalances and, should they arise, the same strategies will gently coax your body back toward its natural state of equilibrium.

We were not meant to do the same things, eat the same foods and get the same rest year round. It must change, we must listen deeply to what our bodies and minds are telling us probably very loudly that it needs. Will you listen? If you do, you will have a greater opportunity to stay well as each season changes.

How to support respiratory health in the fall can sometimes be challenging as so many changes are happening as we go from summer into a new season.

According to traditional chinese medicine and ayurvedic medicine the fall is the season of the lung. And that makes sense because as it is also cold and flu season and those kinds of ailments impact the lungs and their associated tissues like the ears, nose and throat disproportionately.

What to do for prevention?

~getting cardiovascular exercise is key~

But the other side of that coin is conscious breathing. That would be yogic breathing where you make your inhale shorter than your exhalation. You inhale should be about 1/2 the length of your exhale. Your extending the exhale out. This has the effect of dilating the bronchial tissues. It also has the effect of all the fluids and all the mucus and the things that are naturally produced by those tissues to circulate better. One other piece is to stay away from sweetened frozen foods especially ice cream because it will make phlegm in your lungs.
Fast paced walking and breathwork, an easy start to staying healthy

As the United States struggles with an epidemic of opioid use and its devastating effects on lives, society and the economy it's important to consider the role massage therapy can play in relieving pain.

A recent economic modeling analysis indicates that as many as 5 million people in the United States could potentially benefit from massage therapy for pain relief, while reducing the number of people with addiction disorder by over 100,000 per year.

Prescription opioids carry serious risk of addiction, abuse, and overdose, in addition to a number of side effects, even when taken as directed deaths from prescription opioids—drugs like oxycodone, hydrocodone, and methadone—have more than quadrupled since 1999.

Five Painful Conditions that Massage Can Help…

1. Low-Back Pain
Back pain is the second most common neurological ailment in the U.S. Research shows that massage therapy can help decrease pain, reduce disability and lower anxiety/depression in low-back pain sufferers.

2. Post-Operative Pain
Post-operative pain can complicate recovery, lengthen hospital stays and interfere with a patient’s return to activities. Recent research indicates massage therapy can significantly reduce pain, anxiety and muscular tension in patients recovering from surgical procedures.

3. Cancer Patients
According to the Mayo Clinic, one in three patients undergoing cancer treatment experiences cancer-related pain. Research shows that massage therapy can relieve pain, stress, nausea, depression, anxiety, and fatigue while improving health-related quality of life for cancer patients. Massage has been particularly effective in eradicating surgery-related pain.

4. Arthritis
Research indicates that 60-minute sessions of Swedish massage once a week for those with osteoarthritis of the knee significantly reduced their pain. In addition, shows that massage therapy can decrease pain, improve grip strength and range of motion in wrists and large upper joints in adults with rheumatoid arthritis, after receiving regular massage during a 4-week period

5. Stress / Anxiety
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, over 40 million adult Americans suffer from anxiety disorders. Massage therapy can be an effective treatment by elevating neurotransmitters associated with lowering anxiety and decreasing hormones associated with increasing anxiety.
