I think people are confused about immigration. Here’s some information:

If people come through our borders from anywhere, including Mexico, and they are permitted entry by Customs and Border Patrol, they are not illegal immigrants. They’re just visiting and are legal and documented. If they stay past their visa allotment (6 months for travel visa, and work visas typically 1-4 years), they then become undocumented. This is the largest population of undocumented immigrants in our country. Not people crossing through the desert or climbing walls.

There have been 10-11 million “encounters” at the southern border since 2021 by Border Control. These are people who attempted to enter illegally or tried to enter legally, but were deemed inadmissible. (It must be noted that this does not necessarily mean 10 million people came to the border, as the same person can try to cross multiple times and it is counted as a single encounter each time.) More than half are denied entry, while the others have to prove a valid reason for trying to enter before they are approved. It is difficult to say how many people can enter illegally without encountering border patrol, but they try to use these numbers to estimate.

Also, when people are seeking asylum, that doesn’t mean they’re from psychiatric hospitals or are criminals; they are seeking refuge from a violent, dangerous, or bad situation in their own country. Asylum seekers are refugees.

One last thing, undocumented immigrants have a considerably lower crime rate than BOTH documented immigrants and natural born citizens. If you are hearing otherwise, it’s misinformation. They don’t want to be deported, so it makes sense that they would lay low.

P.S. The Haitian immigrants in Springfield, OH are LEGAL immigrants who were recruited by the city to fill jobs that no local people could or wanted to fill. And there are no actual documented cases of a single immigrant eating a pet there. Do your research before you spread information that could be very hurtful to people.

I think the thing that frustrates me the most about many of the conservatives I have around me, and there are many, is that they’ve made it impossible for them to be wrong about anything. If they present you with information and you attempt to refute it with documentation or reliable news reporting, they tell you that it is fake news or slanted left or it’s wrong. How can this be 100% of the time? Donald Trump is infallible? I have been working with people my entire life, and I’ve never met someone who is perfect. It’s an impossibility. Yet they will fight tooth and nail not to look at his failings while vehemently pointing out everyone else’s. Can someone who supports Donald Trump say one thing he’s ever done wrong? Or anything at all that Joe Biden or Kamala Harris has done right? These extremes are dangerous. We have to come back to the middle ground. Let’s c***ect on what we share, not divide ourselves further on what we don’t.
