Two types of high performers walk into my practice. Both are winning on paper, but both are slowly burning out.

I didn’t expect banana pancakes, birthday candles, and oat bowls to teach me how to receive love… but they did.

Yesterday, something happened. I let myself fully receive — the birthday messages, the smiles, the time, the love. And you know what? It felt foreign at first.

I’m used to doing, achieving, earning.
But I realized something:

We high performers are great at achieving love, not receiving it.

We say “thank you” and get right back to pushing forward.
We skip over the moments that could actually fill us up.
And if you’re being honest — you probably do it too.

Here’s what hit me hard:

Your success means nothing if you can’t let yourself experience joy.
Your achievements are hollow if you’re too “busy” to feel loved.
Your power is limited if you can’t find peace within yourself.

I used to think balance was about managing time.
But it’s really about managing energy.
About letting yourself be human — not just a human doing.

So I’m sharing this to ask:

When you think of productivity, you might picture schedules, to-do lists, and productivity hacks. But let’s be real—despite all that planning, procrastination sneaks in, and it still feels like you’re always racing the clock.

Here’s the truth: It’s not about tools or hacks. The real issue is deeper.

What if the core of your productivity struggles—procrastination, feeling like there’s never enough time, constantly chasing your own tail—comes from a fractured mind-body connection? When Taking Care of Yourself Doesn’t Fit in Your Schedule

We all have those days when taking care of ourselves feels impossible. There’s a huge list of things to do, the kids want your attention, and you have work tasks piling up. You’re stuck in a whirlwind, just trying to get through the day. The only way to thrive in these situations is to focus on yourself and stay calm. If you don’t, you’ll spend the day reacting to everything around you, feeling out of control.

The Problem: Always Reacting, Never Thriving

Living in a constant state of reaction is tiring. It makes your body tense, your emotions drained, and your mind scattered. You’re not in control of your life; you're just surviving each day. This cycle leads to chronic stress and health issues. It clouds your judgment and makes it hard to make good decisions.

The Solution: Take a Second to Recalibrate

Pause and Breathe:
Stop whatever you’re doing. Take a moment to recognize how you’re feeling inside. Close your eyes and breathe deeply into your belly. This simple act can calm you down and help you feel more grounded.

Plan Your Day:
If you haven’t already planned your day, do it now. Visualize your tasks and include small moments to reset. These breaks will help you stay balanced and clear-headed.

Three Essential Questions:

What can I add to my busy day to help me breathe deeply?
Try a quick walk where you only breathe through your nose. You can do this with or without the kids. This small activity can boost your energy levels.

What can I do today to make tomorrow easier?
Pick one task that will reduce tomorrow’s burden. It could be preparing for a meeting or organizing your workspace.

What can I do that will make me happy?
Active self-care is important. This might be stretching, a quick workout, or spending 20 minutes of quality time with your kids. Use a timer to stay on track.

For Those Who Think They're Off the Hook:

If you think leaving work and home behind solves everything, think again. The stress you build up follows you and affects your home life. Your presence is vital for balance and interaction at home. Ignoring this adds up, making you unstable inside and repeating the reactionary cycle. This affects you physically, making you tight and prone to injuries and sickness. Emotionally, movement and energy flow keep you positive and help you make good decisions.

Break the Cycle:

To break free from the reactionary cycle, you need to put yourself first. Stop, make a new plan, and focus on yourself. Remember, it’s about thriving, not just surviving. These small yet powerful steps can help you regain control, boost your energy, and improve your overall well-being.

Action Steps:

Pause and breathe deeply into your belly.
Plan your day, including small moments to reset.
Focus on three key areas:
