🩺 What is an Arteriovenous Fistula (AV Fistula)?
An AV Fistula is a surgically created connection between an artery and a vein—often in the arm—that allows for safe, effective access to the bloodstream during dialysis treatment.

💉 Why is it important?
AV Fistulas are considered the gold standard for dialysis access because they:
✔️ Provide better blood flow
✔️ Last longer than other access types
✔️ Have fewer complications

🧠 Planning ahead matters! AV Fistulas need time to mature before use, so early evaluation is key for those with advanced kidney disease.

At The Cardiovascular Care Group, our vascular specialists are experts in creating and maintaining AV Fistulas for long-term dialysis success.

What is TCAR—and How Can It Help Prevent Stroke?

At The Cardiovascular Care Group, we offer TransCarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) —a minimally invasive, innovative procedure that treats carotid artery disease and helps reduce the risk of stroke.

Unlike traditional surgery, TCAR uses a smaller incision at the neckline and temporarily reverses blood flow during the procedure to keep plaque away from the brain. The result? A safer, quicker recovery—especially for patients at higher surgical risk.

✅ Reduced stroke risk during the procedure
✅ Less invasive than traditional carotid surgery
✅ Shorter recovery time

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with carotid artery disease, ask our vascular specialists whether TCAR is right for you.

The President's Diagnosis Sheds Light on Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) and Why Should You Care?

Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) affects millions of Americans and can lead to significant leg discomfort, swelling, skin changes, and even ulcers. It occurs when the veins in your legs are unable to return blood efficiently back to the heart.

Dr. Scott Sundick, vascular surgeon at The Cardiovascular Care Group, recently contributed his expertise to a national article discussing CVI in the context of the President's health. His commentary helped shed light on a condition that often goes underdiagnosed.

💡 Symptoms of CVI include:
• Leg heaviness or fatigue
• Swelling in the lower legs and ankles
• Varicose veins
• Skin discoloration or thickening

Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent progression and improve your quality of life.
