Our Story
Specialties One-on-one and group classes for all levels to improve strength & flexibility. Personal training sessions make use of the Pilates reformer, weighted balls and stability props. Group class offerings include Pilates mat with and without props, yoga, and wellness workshops. Each client is encouraged to develop greater and more balanced strength for improved sports performance, resiliency and a greater sense of well-being. History Chris Kandianis opened Westford Pilates in 2007 to teach mat classes and work with individuals using the reformer, a Pilates apparatus with a rolling bed that uses straps and spring resistance thus challenging core stability in each exercise. Pilates movements are designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. With systematic practice of specific exercises coupled with focused breathing patterns, Pilates is invaluable not only as a fitness endeavor itself, but also as an important adjunct to professional sports training and physical rehabilitation of all kinds. Widely embraced among dancers for years, it is now popular with a broad population interested in mindful and healthy practices. With an emphasis on breath, core conditioning and body awareness, PILATES exercise is a safe and highly effective way to stretch, strengthen and streamline your body without building bulk or stressing your joints. Meet Westford Pilates Owner Chris Kandianis, senior instructor and studio owner has been studying yoga since 2000 and Pilates since 2004. She is passionate about helping people use these practices to develop the strength and flexibility needed to enjoy sports, and prevent and overcome injury while bringing mind/body balance to the challenges of daily life. Chris is STOTT™ Pilates certified in Matwork and Reformer through intermediate level plus has training in Injuries and Special Populations and Anatomy. Chris is an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certified personal trainer, and RYT 200 yoga instructor. She holds a BA degree from Tufts University and an MBA from Simmons College and regularly attends workshops to expand her knowledge and repertoire. When not teaching, Chris enjoys running, biking, skiing, hiking and rock climbing. She has run countless road races, including the Boston Marathon, completed several triathlons and has hiked over a dozen of New Hampshire’s 4000 footers many of them in winter.
