If you’re on a GLP-1 like Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro, read this.
The term “Ozempic face” isn’t about the medication itself, it’s about rapid weight loss. The face has fat pads that act like cushions under the skin, and when weight drops quickly those cushions shrink. If volume loss outpaces collagen production, the overlying skin can start to look loose, lax, and more crepey. Fibroblasts are the cells responsible for making collagen, and they simply cannot always keep up with rapid fat loss.
If you’re on a GLP-1, think proactively. Stimulate collagen while the weight is changing. Energy-based treatments such as microneedling, radiofrequency, or laser resurfacing can help support collagen production. There is controversy around RF and fat reduction, and settings matter. When used appropriately, the goal is collagen stimulation, not unnecessary volume loss.
Injectables can also play an important role. Hyaluronic acid fillers replace lost volume, calcium hydroxylapatite such as Radiesse can both volumize and stimulate collagen, and poly-L-lactic acid such as Sculptra works gradually to build collagen over time.
The key is not chasing correction after significant volume loss. Stay ahead of the collagen game.
