Perimenopause is a natural transition โ your bodyโs way of preparing for menopause.
Itโs driven by shifting hormones and often begins in your 40s (though it can start earlier). As your ovaries slow down and release eggs less regularly, periods become unpredictable. Progesterone gradually declines, while Estrogen starts to spike and dip erratically โ leading to that emotional rollercoaster, hot flashes, and other perimenopausal symptoms.
This phase can last anywhere from 4 to 8 years (sometimes longer) and officially ends once youโve gone 12 months without a period โ thatโs menopause. Afterward comes the postmenopausal phase, where hormone levels stay low but stable.
Your body is transforming โ and understanding whatโs happening is the first step to feeling empowered through it. ๐
