Great tips for pedestrians from our City of Westlake Village. 🚶♀️😊🙌
🚨Listen up !🚨
Winter is coming and that means we will have less daylight to illuminate our daily commutes. It is important for drivers and pedestrians to be aware of this and take precautions to make sure everyone stays safe.
💡Here are some tips on how to keep yourself and others safe when you are out and about:
- Always use the sidewalk if it is available. If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic and stay as far from traffic as possible.
- Wear bright colors and reflective clothing so that approaching drivers can clearly see you.
- If you are walking in a poorly lit or dark area, bring a reliable flashlight, headlamp, or use the light feature on your cell phone.
- Cross streets at well-lit crosswalks or intersections. Look for cars in all directions, including those turning left or right.
- Avoid using your phone while walking and lower the volume of your headphones so you are able to hear what is going on around you.
- Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways – as well as vehicles backing up in parking lots.
