Kelly Nicassio, LMFT

Kelly Nicassio, LMFT Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in treating children and families.

Is your child experiencing problems at school, difficulty making or keeping friends, tantrums, constant worrying or nightmares? I have a passion for working with children and families, and I'm here to help. There is so much pressure today to be a "perfect" parent, and admitting that you need support can be difficult. My goal is to create a safe space for you and your child to work together to problem-solve and get through challenging times. I have experience treating children and adolescents with a variety of concerns, including behavioral issues, trauma, attention disorders (ADHD), adjustment disorder, generalized anxiety, separation anxiety and depression. I have specialty training in attachment and infant brain development, focusing on treatment with children ages birth to 5 years old. I believe in strengthening the relationship between parents and children in addition to helping parents manage and change undesirable behaviors.

Why do we feel triggered when our kids do that thing they do, and what tools do we have to keep us from meeting their immaturity with our own?

Parents don't often consider screens to be a contributing factor to their child's behavior or emotional issues. Because screens are so normalized, we believe "that's just how it is - everyone has them." I know there's a better way, and I've worked with families to help them break free from the screen battles.

Picture this: It’s summer break! You have a summer bucket list and vacations planned and are set on having a fun-filled summer with your children.

But in between art camp, pool time and beach trips, you notice your kids are glued to their devices: your son fights you for “just one more minute!” to finish his video game; your daughter gives you an eye roll and major attitude when you tell her it’s time to go to bed and put down her phone.

Fighting with your children over technology WAS NOT on your summer bucket list.

You’re not alone, and I’m here to help.

I offer parent coaching to help your family find peace around technology. Summer is the perfect time to get a handle on your family’s technology use!

"I have found it easier to treat he**in and crystal m**h addicts than lost-in-the-matrix video gamers or Facebook dependent social media addicts." - Dr. Nicholas Kardaras, author of Glow Kids. I'm currently reading his book and, wow, it's both terrifying and eye-opening. In a time when it feels nearly impossible to take screens away from our kids, it might just be the BEST thing we can do.

A Call to Parents: The Screen Effect By Jennifer Ruisch, screenwriter & ScreenStrong Ambassador   The great experiment is underway. An entire generation of kids and teens are now using screens in their free time to watch funny videos, play games and connect with friends. And now, thanks to Covid-19...
