Are you kids feeling nervous or anxious about the new school year? One of my clients came in today and was very worried about school starting. We talked about strategies to help him manage the stress a bit. One of the most effective breathing strategies for my clients is box breathing. Sometimes just talking about the strategy doesn’t help them remember it in the time of need so… Today we practiced it, drew a visual to bring with him and then he taught mom the skill to show mastery! Hope this helps tomorrow, my friend! Try it with your kids or even for yourself! Let me know how it works for you!

A chronically elevated fight-or-flight response is common in this day and age.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And this can wreak havoc on our mental *and* physical health. It can lead to depression, anxiety, frequent colds, and more.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
During fight-or-flight, your heart rate increases, your pupils dilate, and you’re on high alert. Plus, anything your body doesn’t need for survival comes to a grinding halt. Digestion, reproductive growth hormone production, and tissue repair are all put on the back burner, according to The Cleveland Clinic.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But, our bodies weren’t designed to *stay* in fight-or-flight for more than a few hours.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What can you do?

You can try to avoid negative stressors . . . but that’s not always realistic.

Instead, prioritize improving the internal resilience of your body so stress doesn’t knock you off kilter! One way to start is through ✨movement✨
