"Possibly one of the most written-about cemeteries in the state, Butler, or William Ganong, Cemetery is reknowned for its hauntings. The main legend is of a literally traffic stopping blonde beauty in white who appears in the road in front of travelers, causing cars to swerve to avoid hitting her. Tucked next to a schoolyard on Henry Ruff Road in Westland near Detroit, the isolated old graveyard that was catapulted into the spotlight in 1980 when a well-known area psychic, the late Marion Kuclo, paid the place a visit. Kuclo, also know by her Wicca name of Gundella, claimed to be descended from the Green Witches of Scotland. She wrote in her book, Michigan Haunts and Hauntings, that as she strolled through the vine-entangled gravestones one day, she thought that she spied a blonde wig lying on the ground. Walking nearer, she was horrified to discover that it was a human scalp, complete with strwberry-blonde tresses. She could also see a human bone sticking up through the earth and, nearby, pieces of an old coffin neatly stacked in a pile. Bits of what may have been either a white satin dress or a coffin lining lay about. There was a crumbled headstone on which the only name legible was Alice. The police declared it a case of animals digging up a grave, but Gundella didn't believe that, having seen the neatly stacked boards. Other accounts claimed that rain had washed the coffin out of its burial place. Whatever the reason for the disturbance of Alice's remains, it seemed to set off a series of sightings of a beautiful blonde lady in white. Not long after Gundella's grisly discovery, a driver was killed when he veered off the road just outside the cemetery, on what is now called the Bad Curve, pouring more fuel on the rumors And the strangeness continues. Investigators still report hearing unearthly screams in the cemetery at night, with a high incidence of phenonmena showing up on audio and video recordings. The best advice is to take your time when passing William Ganong at night on the Bad Curve and be ready to brake for transparent blondes. Also nearby is the Eloise Insane Asylum, which is also reported to be haunted.
