Meet Ingrid, an OCR patient who has experienced the life changing results of joint replacement first-hand. Check out her inspiring story below โฌ๏ธ
Ingrid has always been active, playing tennis throughout high school and college, while getting outdoors to go on walks and hikes through her adult life as a mom of 3. A dream of hers was to climb Mount Kilimanjaro (19,400 feet), but something about it felt so out of reach โฐ๏ธ
In 2003, Ingrid was told she would eventually need both knees replaced, as they were already showing bone on bone. Shortly after that, she tore her ACL and Meniscus in a skiing accident. After that surgery, she knew she didn't want to take her movement for granted.
Ingrid got involved in her community and took up different hobbies: hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and golfing! While still staying so active, the knee she had repaired would give out and give her issues, even from simply walking. The pain just didn't seem to go away.
After hearing praise for OCR and Dr. Shah, Ingrid new that he would be the doctor that would help get her life back. In the Spring of 2024, Ingrid unfortunately took a fall that pushed her to schedule her knee replacements with her right knee in July and her left knee in November.
The difference was night and day partnered with a wonderful recovery through physical therapy. With her new knees, she was determined to make her dream of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro a reality, there was nothing holding her back now. ๐ช๐ฝ
โYou have to have goals, if you donโt try you donโt know if you can do it. I wanted to show myself and my family that we can do hard things.โ
Miraculously, on August 23, 2025, Ingrid completed the 9-day trek up the mountain with absolutely no pain. ๐ ๐๏ธ
โYou only have one body, and you have to take care of it, and if you donโt take care of it, you find good doctors who help you through it. Dr. Shah was that for me.โ
Thank you, Ingrid, for sharing your story with us. We are all so proud of you! ๐ โค๏ธ
