Have you ever gotten in your car to drive home and, suddenly, you're home with little or no memory of making the trip? If so, you may have experienced a phenomenon known as microsleep.
Microsleep refers to brief periods of sleep that typically last only a few seconds or minutes. A person can experience microsleep without even closing their eyes, making them appear to be awake.
During microsleep, the brain does not process external information like it usually does. Because of this, microsleep can lead to car accidents, trips and falls, or other potentially dangerous situations.
