Just a friendly reminder:

We haven't had any measurable rain fall in quite some time, so please be mindful of that when you decide to light off your fireworks. The vegetation is extremely dry and it will not take much to ignite it.

It was a good day training together with Westminster, Holly Springs, Cleveland, OCES squad, Westminster Rescue and Shiloh out of Ga. All came together for our annual burn refresher to train together since we routinely assist each other on calls.

You will probably see some smoke in the area of Old Seneca Rd. & Hwy. 11 today. They conducted a controlled burn yesterday, and there will be residual smoke, and possibly some visible flames as some stumps continue to burn.

If you own one of these ticking time bombs, at least store it where it will not hurt anyone else when it explodes.

With more and more structure fires being caused by these things, it may be a good time to revisit regulatory and safety standards.

The blaze started at around 7 p.m. Monday on Kingsbridge Road near University Avenue.

Again, you will see smoke.

Our Beginnings

Holly Springs Fire Department

Oconee County, South Carolina

In July of 2016 the idea of starting a volunteer fire department to serve the Holly Springs Community from what was at the time a substation was born. With the help of Travis Collins, Mike Wilbanks, Sawyer Gambrell, and County Fire Chief Charlie King, this idea became a concept. On September 19, 2016 an informational meeting was held at the substation, and 13 residents from the community attended, and eight of those completed membership applications that night. A follow-up meeting was held on October 13, 2016, and four more completed membership applications. On November 10, 2016 the first official training session was held.
