It’s a very important lesson for caregivers of children - be they parents, grandparents, extended family members, teachers, coaches or anyone wanting to have a positive connection and impact on our kiddos.
Instead of external rewards and punishment, we want to develop children's intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation, or self-motivation, is an internal desire to do something. Celebrating and noticing when children are kind, helpful, responsible, etc. triggers the release of these feel-good juices, encouraging children to to develop intrinsic motivation.
