In honor of the famous Festival of San Fermín, July’s Taste of Atria lunch transported residents to Spain! The flavorful menu featured beef and cheese empanadas, chicken paella with roast vegetables and caramel flan. Residents and their friends savored the experience, which was complemented by a screening of the period piece Carmen.

We can't wait to see – and taste – the cuisine from our destination next month!

Sandy has always had a way with words.

A longtime resident of Atria Tamalpais Creek, she spent years writing for the San Rafael Daily Independent Journal, now the Marin Independent Journal, where her columns on motherhood and raising strong, independent kids resonated with readers across generations.

These days, Sandy brings that same thoughtful spirit to life in her community. She leads the garden club with enthusiasm, constantly dreaming up creative nature projects and fun outings. She's also a faithful reader of the Independent Journal and sparks great conversation during the community's news discussion groups, helping everyone stay engaged with the world around them.

We're lucky to have Sandy's curiosity and warmth at Atria. Her story is still unfolding – and we’re so glad to be part of it.

Our Chef Showdown “sweets” event brought the heat – and plenty of sugar!

Residents, guests and even a panel of celebrity judges watched as our chefs went spatula-to-spatula with residents’ cherished dessert recipes in a live cooking competition. From secret family ingredients to chef-inspired twists, everyone had the chance to taste and vote for their favorite version of each sweet treat.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for the fun – and congratulations to all our resident bakers and culinary pros who made this showdown so delicious!

“Painting was always like breathing. It had to be,” says Elaine, a resident at Atria Cutter Mill whose lifelong love of art began with her father’s encouragement and a coloring book.

Though she never sold her work – “My paintings felt like children,” she says – Elaine’s legacy lives on through the pieces saved and beloved by her family.

With a master’s in fine art, memories of opera singing and a story as vibrant as her canvases, Elaine continues to inspire.

Her advice? “If you’re following your passion, you’re doing the best thing in the world. Be yourself.”

Congratulations to Jenesis, one of this year’s recipients of the Ronnie Boatman Scholarship! 🎓

Jenesis is the daughter of Anthony, a Resident Services Assistant in the memory care neighborhood at Atria Park of Lafayette. A high school student body president with perfect attendance and a passion for dance, Jenesis credits her father’s unwavering support for helping her reach this milestone. In the fall, she’ll attend Cal Poly Pomona to study environmental sciences. “This scholarship will enable me to pursue my dream,” she shares.

The Boatman Scholarship honors the legacy of beloved Atria leader Ronnie Boatman and has awarded nearly $800,000 to help the children and legal dependents of Atria employees pursue higher education.

A big birthday was recently celebrated at Atria Bethlehem. Ruth is 101!

"I would say trusting in the Lord and common sense are two things that helped me be blessed with 101 years of life," she shares.

When asked what advice she has for the younger generation, she says to respect others and spend time with your elders. We agree!

Teresa has been keeping things fresh and folded at Atria Del Sol for 8 years, and the residents and employees there will be the first to tell you how lucky they are to have her! 👕✨

As the community’s dedicated Laundry Attendant, she’s known not just for her flawless folding skills, but also for her warm heart and willingness to help wherever needed.

“It’s like a big family here,” Teresa says. “I love it!”
