Thoroughly enjoyed this weekend's "Trunk-or-Treat" at Holy Trinity Church in Westmont! We gave away toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, glow-sticks, and toys for over 300 trick-or-treaters to help fight cavities.

Everyone had on great costumes including a special astronaut, patriot, and Yoshi (my family of course)! A special shout-out to all the participants and thanks for making these crazy times happy and memorable to all!

The doctor has become the patient!

Dr. Blaney recently had a tooth fixed by fellow Haiti Mission companion Dr. Schubert from Downers Grove. Although this year hasn't allowed us to travel to Haiti for dental missions as in previous years, here's to hoping that 2021 allows us the opportunity to travel again. Dr. Blaney and Esposito send well wishes to you all for good health.

Grateful to have hosted this past Saturday our very own Westmont Boy Scout Troop 6 for their annual popcorn fundraiser! High fives and a "job well done" for these young upstanding citizens and their dedicated parents!

If you missed out this time, don't worry! We will be seeing them in front of the dental office once again on Monday, September 28 between 4-6pm. Save the date!

70% of all sales go back directly to support the troop! Say hi, make friends, and support a great local group and a great organization (and don't forget to brush your teeth when you're done enjoying)!

It's been 3 months since reopening since COVID, and Dr. Blaney, the staff, and I are so happy to be serving the community and being back to promoting great health! We love seeing our patients living life, and enjoying these warm early September weeks.

Our patients have been safely receiving their oral health at our office, and we are so grateful that life in Westmont is going well.

Below I'm including a few photos that are living proof that we have the coolest patients around and that we are part of a great community - the first is an octagenarian patient of ours and his Harley Davidson that he rode to his appointment on (I aspire to be that cool someday), one is of a special patient dear to my heart, who has helped my burgeoning science career in junior high, my biology teacher Mr. John Baar, and several kids raiding our really awesome treasure chest after a great appointment with Sara our hygienist.

Our last photo is of the ripening of the concord grapevine in the back of our office signaling that we are nearing summer's end. To anyone who would like fresh grapes, don't hesitate to ask! ( Disclaimer - though sweet and delicious, they do contain seeds. Please brush and floss and get enjoying them!) We wish everyone a great last few weeks of summer. We are VERY EXCITED that on June 1st, we are back to our regular scheduling of patients for both hygiene and regular dental care!

We have a new look, and new ways of making your dental experience safe, swift, comfortable, and memorable.

We have many measures in place to protect our patients including UV air filtration systems for every operatory, rinses to kill oral organisms, new high speed suction equipment, new protocols to maintain social distancing, as well as a well educated staff wearing personal protective equipment for the safety of all.

We are a part of one of the greatest communities in Chicagoland, and we are proud of the strength of our tradition of serving Westmont and her neighbors for decades, and will continue to do so for decades to come.

Happy 1st Sunday in May! We hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the beautiful weather. We are making great use of our time to help freshen up the office to prepare for (hopefully) reopening in a few weeks! Dr. Esposito has been painting the office! A silver lining to the clouds today: Went to the office today to call patients to change their appointments due to shelter-in-place rules.

Was delighted that routine appointment phone calls would have us reach folks in ways that our regular day-to-day busy schedules don't allow. Folks were happy to pick up their phones, laugh, tell stories, give recommendations for home entertainment, tell jokes (some real zingers too!), and simply connect. It was excellent hearing folks happy and healthy. It was a treat to have pleasant conversation, and people were happy just to hear neighborly words from their doc without concern for a diagnosis or a bill.

Sometimes it's just nice being a good neighbor, hearing a friend's voice, and knowing everyone is doing ok. Wishing you and your families well through these times. Be well, and we will make it through together!

Be mindful! Emergency rooms are expected to become overwhelmed on account of COVID-19, let alone everything car accidents to heart attacks.

If you have a mouth related pain, or think that you have an issue that can be treated by a dentist, free up a hospital bed and a doctor team and reach out to us. We are open on a case-by-case basis for emergency care and are pleased to help however we can.

If you or someone you know has a dental emergency including but not limited to pain, swelling in and around the mouth, a broken tooth, or anything that you would go to a dentist first to help, do not hesitate to call. Keep the emergency rooms clear for life-threatening situations!

A 1% solution of hydrogen peroxide in a rinse helps reduce spread of COVID-19 if you're in close proximity to vulnerable patients - we have been advised that in the case as healthcare providers when we see emergency patients to perform a rinse prior to treatment to help kill off oral virus. It's an inexpensive way to help keep folks safe.

If you buy typical over the counter hydrogen peroxide, (3%) dilute it with 2-parts water just before use (not any sooner) to reduce to 1%, then swish for 30-60 seconds. You can also check various mouthwashes as many whitening rinses also contain hydrogen peroxide. Hope this helps! Let's keep everyone safe!

COVID-19 Update: The IL State Dental Society and now the American Dental Association have recommended all dental offices across the state of IL and the nation to perform dental treatment only in the instance of dental emergency to help curb the spread of COVID-19 from March 17-March 31, 2020. Don't worry! Drs. Blaney and Esposito will be available to you as needed (the benefit of living moments from the office!) If you have pain, break a tooth, damage a prosthesis, or have any trouble dentally, you're safe!

I wanted to give a quick update to our patients regarding the next few weeks at the office and COVID-19.

At this time, we will be keeping our normal schedule and will continue to see both emergencies and regularly scheduled appointments (cleanings, fillings, etc.). I have been closely monitoring updates from the IL State Dental Society, CDC, the ADA, dental Facebook groups, and general news outlets for the last few days about the appropriate courses of action. As a healthcare provider it is our duty to face these challenges head-on and sensibly without giving way to fear. As a matter of best measure, remaining open to serve all is the consensus with respect to dental offices.

A few notes:

-If you are sick, or think you are sick, absolutely without question call to cancel your appointment. If you are ill, or have another risk factor (such as certain kinds of travel) when you come to the office, please expect to have your appointment rescheduled.

-If you are in a high risk group based on your age or medical status, do not hesitate to call the office and reschedule for a more prudent time if you decide that is best for your health. We understand. We want you to stay healthy too!

-Try to come to your appointment right at the scheduled time, minimizing the amount of time you need to spend in the waiting room.

-We always rigorously follow infection control guidelines at the office, regularly wiping down surfaces and sterilizing instruments. We will continue to do so. We may alter typical treatment protocol to follow up-to-date day-to-day guideline changes and postpone other elective treatment.

-As you are all well aware, this situation is evolving rapidly, and I will continue to respond to changes as they arise.

Our first priority is, and has always been, your safety. We interact with many people during the course of the day, and we strive to treat everyone in safe way. There are some of you who will be in need of emergency dental care in the coming weeks, and it is my sincere desire to provide that care for as long as we can. Please join myself and my staff in keeping the office clean, healthy, and safe while we work through this challenging time together.
