Stay Healthy, Stay Happy: Your Spring Break Travel Guide 🌸✈️
Spring break is finally here! Whether you're heading to a sunny beach, hitting the slopes, or visiting family, the last thing you want is for a sudden illness or injury to ruin your trip.
At the Urgent Care Center of Westmont, we want to make sure you spend your vacation making memories, not visiting a clinic. Here are our top tips for staying healthy while on the move:
1. Hydrate Like a Pro 💧
Travel—especially flying—can be incredibly dehydrating. Low humidity in plane cabins and increased physical activity can drain your energy.
The Goal: Carry a reusable water bottle and aim for at least 8 ounces of water for every hour you’re in the air.
Limit: Sugary sodas and excessive caffeine, which can lead to energy crashes.
2. Keep Germs at Bay 🧼
Airports, gas stations, and hotels are high-traffic areas for bacteria and viruses.
Sanitize: Pack a travel-sized hand sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol) and use it after touching kiosks, handrails, or tray tables.
Hands Off: Try to avoid touching your face, eyes, and mouth until you’ve had a chance to wash your hands thoroughly.
3. Eat Mindfully (and Safely) 🍎
Trying new foods is part of the fun, but it can be tough on your digestive system.
Balance: Incorporate fiber-rich fruits and vegetables to keep your digestion on track.
Food Safety: If traveling abroad, stick to bottled water and ensure street food is cooked thoroughly and served hot.
4. Don't Forget the Sunscreen ☀️
Even if it isn't scorching hot, UV rays can still cause damage (especially if there's reflection from sand, water, or snow).
Apply & Reapply: Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and reapply every two hours.
5. Listen to Your Body 😴
Vacation schedules can be hectic. Overtaxing yourself leads to a weakened immune system.
Rest: Prioritize sleep and don't feel guilty about taking a "down day" to recharge.
