This , we’re highlighting Antonio Lewis Camargo, MD, an heart failure and transplant cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital, who is making a life-saving difference.
🔵 How long have you been a transplant cardiologist?
🟢 I have been a Cardiologist for four years. I did all my training at Cleveland Clinic.
🔵 What inspired you to choose this specialty?
🟢 I was drawn to Cardiac Transplantation because it combines high-acuity care with the opportunity to fundamentally change a patient’s prognosis. Helping patients move from end-stage heart failure to a second chance through transplant is what makes this field unique.
🔵 What do you enjoy most about being a transplant cardiologist?
🟢 It’s the relationships. You walk alongside patients and their families through some of their hardest moments, and then get to witness their recovery and transformation. It’s incredibly rewarding.
🔵 What has been one of your most meaningful moments as a transplant cardiologist?
🟢 Seeing a patient go from cardiogenic shock to walking out of the hospital after a successful transplant. Recovering their quality of life is something that never gets old. Those moments are a reminder why we do this work.
🔵 What excites you most about the future of cardiac transplantation?
🟢 I’m excited about expanding access—better donor utilization, new technologies and therapies that allow more patients to benefit from transplant. The future is about making these life-saving treatments available to more people, more safely.
This , Khaled Refaai, MD, urologist and kidney transplant specialist at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital, explains kidney disease, the transplant process, and common myths, while highlighting how advances in care have made donation safer than ever and why more donors are urgently needed.
