When David Schmidt developed the patches he obviously blended the technology with TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and the studies were carried out with the point locations listed in the brochures. Here's a good reason why they list GV14 (aka Du14) which is the point behind the neck at the "bump." This is also called the vertebrae prominens. Here's an excerpt off the internet about GV14:
"Meeting point of all yang meridians, GV 14 is indicated for exterior conditions as it expels pathogens and firms the yang; clearing heat and fevers whether mild or severe; and for tonifying the yang and strengthening the neck and spine.'
