Nothing brings out smiles faster than a surprise visit from a few four-legged friends. Our residents recently spent the afternoon with visiting goats, petting, feeding, and simply enjoying their playful personalities.

These moments of joy are more than just fun. Animal interactions have been shown to reduce stress, boost mood, and create meaningful social connection. At Maplewood, we are committed to designing experiences that enrich daily life and inspire a sense of purpose and playfulness at every age.

As the holidays approach, our kitchens at Maplewood become some of the most joyful places in the community. Our newest blog, “Gratitude in the Kitchen: Thanksgiving at Maplewood,” highlights how residents and culinary teams come together to bake, share stories, and celebrate the traditions that make this season so meaningful.

From familiar recipes that spark fond memories to new creations made side-by-side, these moments bring comfort, connection, and a sense of home. It’s a reminder that the simplest experiences from mixing dough and tasting seasonal treats to revisiting family favorites, often create the most memorable holiday moments.

When families tour our communities, we want them to feel confident that their loved one will be supported with dignity, professionalism, and genuine warmth. A recent visitor shared that what stood out most was our commitment to staff development and how thoughtfully our community was designed to enhance daily life.

From a highly trained team to spaces created for comfort, connection, and well-being, we are proud to offer an environment where older adults can thrive.

It was a full house at Maplewood at Strawberry Hill today as they welcomed the Lifetime Learners Institute from CT State Community College. Presenters Fay Ruotolo, Mandy Teare, and Gary Bischoff introduced residents from both Strawberry Hill and Maplewood at Darien to a range of upcoming educational programs designed for adult learners.

The interest was immediate: many residents are already preparing to register for classes. It was a meaningful way to highlight how continued learning brings energy, purpose, and shared enthusiasm to our communities.

Maplewood at Newtown hosted a meaningful Veterans Day ceremony recognizing resident veterans whose service spans multiple generations, from World War II to the Korean and Vietnam eras. The room was filled with red, white, and blue as families, residents, associates, and local dignitaries gathered to celebrate their courage and dedication to our nation.

The event featured an invocation and benediction from Monsignor Robert Weiss, a moving performance of “Taps,” and the Pledge of Allegiance recited together—a shared moment of pride and reflection. Our veterans’ journeys represent resilience, sacrifice, and a profound love of country, and their legacy continues to inspire our community each day.

Today, we recognize the extraordinary individuals in our communities who once wore a uniform and served with pride. Their stories of resilience, strength, and devotion to something greater than themselves continue to shape and uplift our Maplewood community.

We celebrate their courage and honor the families who stood beside them along the way. Veterans Day reminds us that every act of service leaves a lasting legacy, and it is our privilege to walk beside these remarkable men and women as they continue to lead lives filled with purpose and connection.
