An afternoon on the water created a memorable experience during a recent visit to the Norwalk Yacht Club by a group from Maplewood at Strawberry Hill.

The outing was coordinated through Bill, whose membership made the visit possible, and added an especially meaningful layer when Ron, another member of the group, shared that he once served as a Commodore of the club. Over lunch, guests enjoyed classic Connecticut lobster rolls while reconnecting with stories shaped by years of community and leadership.

It was a beautiful reminder of how personal histories and local landmarks can come together to create moments that feel both meaningful and familiar.

When families describe Maplewood as a true partner in care, it speaks volumes. This family shared how supported they felt from the very first day, from a smooth move-in to attentive transitions as their loved one’s needs evolved. Just as meaningful are the moments that bring joy: daily exercise classes, creative programs, beautiful music, and meals that are consistently enjoyed.

It is a reflection of a community designed to offer both exceptional care and a rich, engaging lifestyle for those who call Maplewood home.

At Maplewood at Stony Hill, Candid Conversations continues to create space for learning, dialogue, and forward-thinking approaches to care. This January, families and guests gathered for Advancing Dementia Care Through Research & Virtual Reality, an informative evening focused on how emerging technology is influencing memory care.

Presentations by Dr. Jennifer Stamps and Zackary Tiedeman of Rendever highlighted current research, clinical trials, and practical applications of virtual reality, followed by a live demonstration, family portal overview, and engaging Q&A. An evening grounded in insight, innovation, and connection.

Maplewood at Chardon was proud to host a First Responders Appreciation Breakfast in honor of the Police, Fire, and EMS professionals who serve the Chardon community with dedication and care.

The morning included special recognition of the Munson Fire Department, a trusted partner in resident transportation, along with a visit from the Geauga County Sheriff's Office Sheriff Scott A. Hildenbrand and the Geauga County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit. Although The Chardon Fire Department could not attend in person, meals were delivered to ensure they were part of the celebration.

With a thoughtfully prepared breakfast by Chef Ty and the support of the Maplewood at Chardon team, the gathering was a warm and meaningful way to express appreciation for those who help keep our community safe.

When a loved one moves into senior living, it often changes more than just where they live, it can transform how families spend time together. Our newest blog explores how the right community support allows families to move beyond caregiving logistics and return to what matters most: connection, conversation, and shared experiences.

From enjoying meals together to participating in programs and celebrations, senior living can create new opportunities for families to be present in more meaningful ways. This article offers insight into how that shift happens and why so many families find their relationships grow stronger when care, safety, and daily needs are thoughtfully supported.

At Maplewood at Brewster, personal stories are an important part of how community is built. Recently, Diane, a Maplewood resident, shared her published book, The Importance of Dogs, with neighbors in the Currents memory care neighborhood, inviting everyone into the meaningful journey behind her writing.

In her book, Diane reflects on the eight dogs who played a central role in her life. One especially touching story features her St. Bernard, Bernie, who became part of a beautiful family moment when Diane’s newly adopted two-year-old son, who had been nonverbal, said his first word: “Bernie.”

By sharing her memories and her book, Diane reminds us how deeply animals, family, and storytelling are woven into the lives we continue to celebrate together.
