Ever wonder where your teeth got their names from? Most are actually named for the function that they perform. Molar is based on the Latin word “mola.” Mola means millstone. Just like a mill grinds different grains into meal, molars grind your food down in a similar way. The mole you know! 🦷

Check out this before and after! Can you believe this is the same smile? This new smile involved orthodontics that set the stage for 9 porcelain veneers. We laser contoured the gums to make a non-symmetrical smile appear natural. The layering also created a lip line that helps to hide an overly gummy smile. We used the natural color of this patient’s teeth as a first step in choosing just the right color veneer that made this smile look perfect and incredibly natural. 🦷

As much as babies may love their pacifiers, their teeth may not. Excessive use of pacifiers may cause abnormal teeth development. We are totally aware of how beneficial pacifiers can be, especially in those early months. According to the ADA, both pacifiers and thumb-sucking can affect the proper growth of the mouth and alignment of the teeth. These problems are more prominent over the age of two. If a baby is using a pacifier here and there or sucking their thumb every so often, they are less likely to develop problems than those whom are completely reliant and vigorously suck their thumbs or pacifiers. As parents, it is important to do what is right for you and your child, but to be aware and to break the habit if needed! It is possible to allow for the soothing without it becoming something they completely rely on - this will help with any unwanted ‘pacifier teeth!’ 🍼
