Validation is a verbal act of understanding perspective, IT IS NOT accommodating and enabling the emotions.

This emotional rescuing can contribute to kids developing limited resilience and perseverance.

Pride comes from overcoming challenges and working through difficulties.

Do you feel as though you need to redirect or correct your child's behavior as soon as it happens? Do you fear that if you don't then the chance is missed? That may work when you're training a puppy; instant corrections. However, we're not raising puppies, we're raising people. And there are times when these people need the space it takes to reflect on what is happening, and to process what they may be feeling. It's OK to let it ride...let the emotions settle. Don't let it go, but come back to it when you're both in a better space. This is also applies to consequences. https://emotionallystrategic.com/

If we, as adults, only listened to what others told us to do and think, how would we ever develop any confidence in our own abilities? How would that build our self-esteem...IT WOULDN'T. It's the same way with your kids. If they only ever listen to you, it doesn't truly help them grow and take pride in their own success and accomplishments.
