We are happy to have been a part of Beth’s recovery. She worked hard and has been able to achieve all of her goals…even bending to get her socks and shoes on after hip replacement surgery! It can be difficult to achieve for many people with hip related issues even after surgery.

One of the most common things we see at The Physio Room is knee injuries and surgeries. We are currently working with patients doing rehab for ACL injuries, partial and full knee replacements, meniscus repairs, patellar fractures ORIFs and cartilage transplantation.

All of the early goals for these procedures are similar, but progression will vary based on the surgery and tissues affected. It is importnat to have a discussion with your rehab provider to set expectations and goals. early.

Top 5 Early Goals Following Knee Surgery:
1. Set Expectations, Have a Plan 📋
2. Control Pain and Swelling 🩼
3. Achieve Full Knee Extension Early📏
4. Improve Quad Strength 💪🏻
5. Improve Knee Flexion 📐

Feel to free to save and share with someone you may know going through a a knee injury.

When will I get better? 😬

This is the most common question that gets asked when first seeing a physical therapist. Most patients we work with either just had an injury or have been dealing with the frustration of having pain for a long time. These charts provide a visual in regards to the typical time frames for healing at the biological tissue level, but it isn’t the whole story.

Most people’s pain and functional limitations are complex. An injury not properly cared for can result in compensations creating other issues.

Everyone is on their individual path to recovery and different factors can change the healing time frame. For example: amount of blood flow to the injured tissue, underlying health issues such as diabetes, and overall general health.

Seeing a physical therapist can help guide you through the recovery so that you can get back to activities you love quicker and safer.

Dealing with an injury is a process but there is light at the end of the tunnel!

If dealing with an injury, feel free to contact us!

We hope everyone is having a great New Year weekend!

For those with a resolution to be more active and healthy this year, we put together some tips to help reduce the risk of injury. 😊

✍️ Have a plan: Set your goals, have everything you need, and be prepared. A good friend once taught me the 5 P’s. Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Performance. And I couldn’t agree more!

🗓 Take your time. You are doing this for you! Small wins along the way for big gains down the road!

💪🏻 Your body will tell you when it needs a break. The soreness rules are a good way to gauge breaks without getting too confused with numbers.

🚴 🏃🏻‍♀️ 🏊🏽‍♂️ 🧘🏼🏋🏻Various Forms of Exercise. Change it up! Great way to work different muscle groups at different times.

🛌 Rest and Recovery
Your working hard during the day to be active and build a healthier life style. But, it is important to enjoy the process and give yourself breaks to enjoy the small victories!

We hope these tips help. If you do have an injury or any questions and want to get back to being active. We’re more than happy to help!
