Prenatal Chiropractic Care

You are pregnant! Congratulations!

Westwood Family Chiropractic may help you achieve a safer, more comfortable birth; however you choose to have it. Your body is designed to birth your baby and chiropractic care aims to support your body’s natural functions. Chiropractic care is safe, gentle, and effective during pregnancy.

As a baby grows inside of a person’s body, the proper alignment of the spine and pelvis through chiropractic adjustments may support not only a healthier pregnancy but also a more optimal birth. While a chiropractic adjustment is not a treatment for any pregnancy-related conditions, regular chiropractic care during pregnancy optimizes the spinal biomechanics (alignment and movement of the spine) as well as ensures proper nerve supply. Your muscles, uterus, and pelvic alignment rely on clear communication between your brain and body through the nervous system. When your spine is well adjusted your brain can better communicate with your body, optimizing your body’s overall function. While under regular care you may notice more comfort during pregnancy, a shorter labor time, and more confidence in your birth.

The Webster technique is the gold standard of chiropractic protocol in caring for an expecting parent. The evaluation is totally non-invasive. Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (i.e., dystocia), caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-presentation. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia. Should your exam reveal less than optimal biomechanics or nerve flow, the adjustment is a specific, gentle force application to the spine. Research has shown that people who receive the Webster technique during pregnancy have easier pregnancies and better birth outcomes.

At Westwood Family Chiropractic, our chiropractors are extensively trained in the Webster technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). This specific training allows our chiropractors to provide exceptional care and support to expectant parents during the prenatal period.
